Guided by the establishment of the Shanghai Free Trade Zone and the lifting of the ban on game consoles in the mainland, Microsoft and Sony respectively approached BesTV and Oriental Pearl, which are controlled by Shanghai Oriental Media Group (formerly Shanghai Media Group, SMG), to start cooperation. The introduction of Xbox One and PS4 was finalized one after another, and the console war in the Chinese market was about to start. However, the latest trends from the capital market suggest that the two mortal enemies, Xbox One and PS4, may be forced to become one family in China. Shanghai Oriental Pearl issued a statement yesterday afternoon, denying the previous news about the merger with BesTV, and on the other hand, it once again extended its suspension period in the stock market. Analysts believe that this move has given a clear signal to the outside world that Shanghai Oriental Media Group is carrying out a major asset restructuring plan involving BesTV and Oriental Pearl. Taking into account the overlapping businesses of the two companies and that BesTV's capital scale and brand influence are higher than those of Oriental Pearl, the outside world still retains the view that the two companies will merge, and at the same time gives three possible directions for future development: - BesTV acquires Oriental Pearl and continues to use the BesTV name externally; - BesTV merges with Oriental Pearl to form a new company; - BesTV and Oriental Pearl are retained, but their respective business directions and strategies are adjusted.
