64-bit phones will be everywhere next year: thanks to Android L

When Apple launched the iPhone 5s last year, many Android device manufacturers' initial reaction was to laugh at Apple's 64-bit smartphone and say it was useless. But now, these manufacturers have begun to catch up with Apple and are planning to launch 64-bit products.

According to the Electronic Times, Google's upcoming Android L operating system will not only support 64-bit processors, but will also be optimized specifically for 64-bit hardware devices to maximize their performance. According to an unnamed insider, by the end of 2015, 64-bit processors will become the mainstream configuration in Android smartphones, and now major hardware manufacturers have begun to increase their efforts to develop this more advanced architecture.

Manufacturers including Lenovo, Tianyu, Huawei, Vivo and HTC have begun to purchase Qualcomm's Snapdragon 610, 614 and 410 64-bit processors in large quantities, and have begun to accelerate secondary development for the Android L system.

Currently, the competition for 64-bit processors has developed from MediaTek, Samsung and other companies to the supply chain. According to MediaTek, a large number of Chinese mobile phone manufacturers have purchased 64-bit mobile processors from it. Samsung is also apparently continuing its own 64-bit mobile processor research and development, and has started testing it on some models in the second half of this year, and will start selling it to other manufacturers from next year.

Huawei's HiSilicon processor seems to have also begun to develop 64-bit processors, but according to the latest news, HiSilicon's 64-bit processor will not be unveiled until the first half of 2015 at the earliest.

Although Google has not officially released the Android L system yet (it is not certain whether it will be called this name in the end), according to the latest rumors, Android L will be officially released at the end of this month and will be pushed out next month. For those consumers who are eagerly looking forward to 64-bit smartphones, it seems that the waiting time will not be too long.
