ODG: Augmented reality glasses of the future

Facebook spent $2 billion to acquire virtual reality manufacturer Oculus, making virtual reality a hot topic in 2014. In contrast, augmented reality (AR) is not as popular as VR.

Augmented Reality (AR) is a new technology that uses computer systems to generate three-dimensional information to enhance users' perception of the real world. It is generally believed that the emergence of AR technology originated from the development of Virtual Reality (VR), but there are obvious differences between the two.

We have seen a lot of VR devices, but AR hardware seems a bit niche. Recently, Osterhout Design Group (ODG) launched a pair of AR glasses with a very sci-fi feel.

The glasses, codenamed ODG R-6, weigh 125g and are equipped with Qualcomm's Vuforia augmented reality system, which can project 3D graphics into the wearer's real field of view. The projected image resolution is 720P, the aspect ratio is 16:9, and the refresh rate reaches 100fps.

In addition, ODG R-6 also supports functions such as video playback, 3D gaming, navigation, and virtual workspace.

The ODG R-6 is equipped with a 2.7GHz Qualcomm quad-core processor and up to 128GB of built-in storage space. In addition, it is also equipped with an accelerometer, gyroscope, pressure, humidity sensor and magnetometer.

Other features include Wi-Fi and Bluetooth components, GPS navigation, 1400 mAh battery, and USB port.

The ODG R-6 has a futuristic look, much like the high-tech glasses in the movies. There is a camera on the nose pad that supports 720P video shooting.

As for the price, ODG said it will be "under $1,000." The product will be unveiled at CES next week.
