Apple has come up with a patent to make the iPhone waterproof

Apple is considering designing a waterproof iPhone, according to a recently published patent application.

The patent application, made public Thursday, describes a method for waterproofing a cellphone that, unlike other waterproofing methods, works from the inside of the phone rather than the outside.

Most waterproof devices, like Samsung's Galaxy Active, use a sturdier casing to prevent water from seeping into the phone's interior, but Apple doesn't think that way.

Apple's patent application describes a new system in which the internal components of the system are covered with a "hydrophobic coating" to prevent damage to the components after being soaked in water. The patent document states that this coating can completely cover the circuit board.

While Apple's patent filing doesn't mention whether it will use this technology in the iPhone, the image attached to the filing clearly shows a device that looks a lot like an iPhone.

This technology allows Apple to achieve waterproofing without having to modify the design of the iPhone. Most waterproof phones are bulkier than non-waterproof ones.

However, it is worth noting that Apple's patents rarely appear in real products. Apple has registered a large number of patents that look interesting but seem unrealistic, such as curved screen devices that can be fully rolled up and charging iPhones with sunlight.
