IE is dying slowly: Win 10 default browser is not it

Microsoft's development of the Spartan browser (code name, not official name) resulted in the company having two browser products, which confused many Windows users: how will these two browsers be used in the future?

Recently, Microsoft officially confirmed that the Spartan browser will be the default browser for the Windows 10 operating system. It will use the latest web rendering engine, while the IE11 browser will not undergo major changes and will use the past rendering engine.

Obviously, Microsoft has established the most important role of Spartan browser in Windows 10 operating system. The American technology news website TheVerge quoted Microsoft as saying: "Spartan browser will be the default browser for all Windows 10 consumers."

Although the emergence of Spartan browser has not yet completely replaced IE browser, Microsoft's attitude towards IE is becoming cold.

Earlier this year, Microsoft announced that the newly developed browser web rendering engine would be used not only for Spartan but also for IE11. However, Microsoft has recently changed its plans and will not upgrade IE's rendering engine.

Kyle Pflug, product manager for Microsoft's Spartan browser project, said Spartan will be the "only user" of the new web rendering engine.

He said: "The IE11 browser in Windows 10 will not undergo major changes compared to the version in Windows 8.1 and will still use the old rendering engine."

The manager said that Microsoft will provide two browsers in Windows 10, which has confused many consumers who tried Windows 10, and Microsoft has absorbed some feedback. He said: "The arrangement (of different rendering engines) simplifies the roles of the two browsers. Spartan browser is the future of Microsoft."

In short, the old IE browser will not be able to enjoy the technological innovation upgrades made by Microsoft for the Spartan project.

US media analysis pointed out that the reason why Microsoft has not yet announced the "death penalty" of IE browser is that it may be temporarily retaining compatibility with some old websites.

Previously, Microsoft executives have confirmed that Spartan is just the code name of a research and development project, and Microsoft will give the new browser an official name in the future.

In addition, according to tradition, the Windows 10 operating system will also be divided into multiple versions (such as Basic Edition, Home Edition, etc.). It is still unknown whether the IE browser will appear in all versions of Windows 10.

In a vague statement, Microsoft said it would continue to offer Internet Explorer on Windows 10 for businesses and when users need traditional browser support.

It is generally believed that Spartan is a browser developed by Microsoft to compete with Google Chrome. Compared with IE, Spartan is faster and has a different user interface. Although Microsoft's different versions of IE still hold half of the market share in the world, IE, which was launched 20 years ago, has been solidified as "an old browser" among the younger generation of netizens.
