Do you feel dizzy when using virtual reality glasses? Try adding a virtual nose

Virtual reality (VR) technology is becoming more and more popular, with companies such as Facebook, Samsung, Google, and Sony all involved, but it still faces some troubling problems, one of which is motion sickness. If VR equipment is worn for too long, it will make people nauseous and dizzy.

Although improved motion tracking and low latency technology have solved this problem to a certain extent, many people still report that they feel uncomfortable. However, researchers at the Purdue University School of Computer Graphics Technology have found that adding a virtual nose to a VR scene can solve problems such as dizziness.

It's really eye-opening, what kind of nose is that? Researchers say it's a virtual nose, and the reason why it can produce the effect of curing dizziness may be because people need a fixed visual reference, so even if a car dashboard is added to VR, it can produce the same effect.

The researchers tested 41 participants in various virtual scenarios, some with virtual noses and some without, and found that those with noses were able to stay awake longer.

So the question is, will adding a nose affect the experience of the virtual world? Don't worry, because in the test, the participants didn't even notice the nose! They were so engrossed in the game that when they were told that there was a nose, they didn't believe it! In fact, in real life, if we pay attention, we can see our nose, but we are used to it and don't notice it. But our sensory system can be aware of the existence of the nose, after all, the body is still very honest.

The researchers also told their findings to John Carmack, Chief Technology Officer of Oculus VR, who said he had never heard of such a magical thing and needed to study it carefully.
