How iOS 9 makes iPhone more power efficient

Apple has added two battery enhancements to iOS 9. First, the battery life of iPhone and iPad will be increased by 1 hour after upgrading to the latest iOS 9. Apple says Low Power Mode can add an extra three hours of battery life by lowering screen brightness, turning off sensors and email push notifications, shortening screen sleep time, and turning off background refresh.

However, low power mode is not a new feature for Android users. Many Android phones offer a power saving mode that extends battery life by turning off some functions.

On the Samsung Galaxy S6, the power saving mode reduces the CPU speed, screen brightness and refresh rate, while the ultra power saving mode changes the screen to grayscale and disables many applications. The power saving mode that comes with Android 5.0 turns off the phone's vibration, reduces performance and stops the synchronization and update of applications. Google claims that this feature can add 90 minutes of battery life to Android devices.

Extending battery life through power saving mode is a new experience for iOS users. Before this, many iPhone users used back clip batteries to extend battery life.
