The "fall" of Western Digital Blue Disk: it actually slowed down to 5400 rpm!

The "colorful" hard drives of Western Digital are a major feature, and it is easy to distinguish different positioning grades, such as high-performance black drives, balanced blue drives, energy-saving green drives, NAS red drives, and surveillance purple drives...

Many users often confuse green and blue hard disks. In fact, it is very simple. Green hard disks focus on energy saving, have lower specifications and power consumption, support IntelliPower intelligent adjustment technology for rotation speed, and have a cache of 64MB, making them suitable as data storage disks.

The blue disk has a balanced performance and power consumption, with a rotation speed of 7200 RPM and a cache of 16-64MB. If you don't need the high performance and high power consumption of the black disk, but think the green disk is too slow, the blue disk is the best choice.

But now, Western Digital's latest batch of blue hard drives have broken these boundaries. They are called "WD Blue 5400 RPM Class".

You can tell at a glance that this is a 5400RPM version of the Blue Disk, or a slowed-down version of the Blue Disk, but at the same time the cache is all equipped with 64MB.

It is said that Western Digital is preparing to merge the Blue and Green drives together, unifying the specifications and positioning. The high-speed version will be called "WD Blue 7200 RPM Class", but this has not been officially confirmed and the latter has not yet appeared.

The WD Blue 5400 RPM Class hard drives still have the standard 3.5-inch specifications, SATA 6Gbps interface, and the capacities include 750GB, 1TB, 2TB, 3TB, 4TB, 5TB, 6TB, etc. The numbers are WD5000AZRZ, WD10EZRZ, WD20EZRZ, WD30EZR, WD40EZRZ, and WD50EZRZ.

In other words, the distinguishing mark of this batch of hard drives is that the last three letters of the number are all ZRZ, but the fourth-to-last TB level is E, and the 500GB one is A.

In contrast, the last three letters of the green disk number are ZRX (the fourth from the bottom follows the same rule as above), while the previous blue disks have different endings such as ZEX, ZLX, and AKX.

For example, with the same 1TB capacity, WD10EZRZ is a new blue disk with 5400 rpm, WD10EZRX is a green disk, and WD10EZEX is an old blue disk.

Confused...

At present, this batch of new blue discs has been put on sale in the Akihabara market in Japan, with prices ranging from 5,700 to 29,480 yen, or about RMB 300 to 1,565.
