We are in contact with operating systems all the time. Our mobile phones are equipped with their own operating systems. iPhone is equipped with the IOS system, and Android phones such as Samsung are equipped with the Android operating system. These systems have given life to mobile phones. The same is true for our cars. Generally, cars with a large central control screen will be equipped with an in-vehicle operating system. Today we are going to talk about the in-vehicle operating system that makes many people unhappy. Friends who have used the in-vehicle operating system basically have a common understanding, that is, the in-vehicle operating system experience is far inferior to the mobile phone operating system. The smoothness and operation logic of the mobile phone operating system are often much better than most in-vehicle operating systems. The first is the UI design. The UI design of the in-vehicle operating system of most car companies is like the mobile phone icon ten years ago, which is old-fashioned and complicated. Secondly, the operation logic is mixed. A commonly used function is completely different when operated on a mobile phone and in a car. The in-vehicle system is complicated and chaotic, and it is difficult to figure out its logic. So why can't powerful car companies do a simple in-vehicle operating system? Car companies do not pay attention to the operating system and do not invest in research and development energy and funds . For a car company, the foundation of life is the car rather than the in-vehicle system, but for mobile phone companies, the system is the soul of the mobile phone. The investment of the two in this part is self-evident. The in-vehicle operating system is only a small part of the whole car for car companies, so this small part is of course handed over to a small number of people for research and development. Compared with the investment of mobile phone companies, the gap is huge, which directly leads to a huge gap in the products produced by the two. I once had a fierce battle with a luxury brand's in-car system, just to enter a destination name in the navigation, but I couldn't find how to select the characters. I also called Mercedes-Benz's manual remote service but failed. In the end, I quietly took out my phone, entered the destination on a map, and chose to navigate to this place. The whole process took less than a minute. It's embarrassing to think about it. Every profession has its own specialty, and car companies are not strong enough . The so-called profession has its own specialty. Even if a car company invests more, if there are no better engineers to build the structure and no better designers to design the UI, no matter how much money is spent on designing something, it may be a mess. On the other hand, mobile phones have the best engineers and designers. According to data from 2014, Xiaomi's UI design team has nearly 400 people, and the salary paid for UI in a year has reached nearly 50 million, which is something that a car manufacturer cannot compare with a mobile phone manufacturer. Without this technical reserve, car companies will not be able to come up with a car system comparable to the mobile phone system. Hardware constraints The average smartphone is only used for about one to two years. With the rapid upgrade of smartphones in recent years, the replacement speed of smartphones is basically less than one generation per year. The difference is that most parts inside a car have to last as long as the entire car, and according to the average calculation of manufacturers, this number will take at least ten years or even longer. The constraints of hardware prevent the system from being used to the highest generation. In other words, in order to cope with the huge requirements of the environment on the car, there are higher requirements for the in-vehicle systems that can be installed. In addition, there is a rather complicated problem for the hardware environment of the car, that is, the cost of developing hardware for the car is quite high, so it takes longer for any new system to be installed on the car. Safety factor restrictions As we all know, driving safety is a very important thing. The overdevelopment of in-vehicle infotainment may cause distraction to the driver. For the use of these systems, the government needs to establish special rules and laws to regulate driver behavior, while smartphones and tablets are far from these troubles. In other words, the planning of the operating system must take into account safe driving, so there is no more consideration of its convenience. For example, in many cars, some functions are deep under the menu. Part of the reason here is that for safe driving, the driver cannot operate these functions while driving. Some functions such as adjusting the volume are made into physical buttons or knobs because they want to maximize the ease of operation to ensure safety. In order to integrate the mobile phone operating system, today's car systems have begun to carry the interconnection system developed by mobile phone manufacturers. Mobile phone interconnection systems such as Apple Car Play and Baidu Car Life have gradually become mainstream. Their biggest advantage is that they can directly map the functions and advantages of mobile phones to the car and become part of their car operating system. This will also become a trend in the future. After we get used to the smooth and easy-to-use mobile phone system, it is indeed a bit difficult to accept these scum car systems, but we also need to know some inherent differences between mobile phone systems and car systems.
