Mercury Research: AMD's global x86 market share will reach 24.7% in Q4 2024, up 4.3% year-on-year

Mercury Research announced the global x86 market shipments and sales revenue share in the fourth quarter of 2024. AMD continued to gain ground and made progress in the three major areas of desktop computers, mobile notebooks, and server data centers, and its market share is expected to rise.

Overall, Intel is still in an absolute leading position, but AMD's share is still increasing. According to shipments, it has reached 24.7%, a year-on-year increase of 4.3 percentage points and a month-on-month increase of 0.7 percentage points.

In terms of revenue, AMD has accounted for 28.2%, a year-on-year increase of 6.7 percentage points and a month-on-month increase of 1.8 percentage points.

Obviously, the average selling price of AMD processors is much higher than that of Intel, which is particularly prominent in the data center field.

AMD EPYC's shipment share reached 25.1%, exceeding a quarter for the first time, an increase of 2.0 percentage points year-on-year and 0.9 percentage points month-on-month. Its revenue share was as high as 35.5%, an increase of 3.7 percentage points year-on-year and 1.6 percentage points month-on-month.

However, judging from historical trends, the growth rate of AMD EPYC has slowed down significantly, and the newly released fifth generation has not brought about a significant leap.

On the desktop, AMD Ryzen's shipment share was 27.1% , a year-on-year increase of 7.4 percentage points, but a month-on-month loss of 1.6 percentage points, and it was the only one showing a downward trend.

The revenue share was 27.3%, which is almost the same as the shipment share. Obviously, it does not have much advantage in price. It increased by 12.1% year-on-year, while the month-on-month increase was only 0.9 percentage points.

The situation is quite different for notebooks. AMD Ryzen's shipment share is 23.7% , a year-on-year increase of 3.4 percentage points and a month-on-month increase of 1.4 percentage points.

Calculated by revenue, the share is 21.6%. It is obvious that AMD notebooks still rely on low prices to win at this stage, an increase of 6.5 percentage points year-on-year and 2.4 percentage points month-on-month.
