Digital camera sales hit a new low, replaced by smartphones

Last month, the Camera and Imaging Products Association (CIPA) released its 2016 camera shipment report. Using data from CIPA, photographer Sven Skafisk created a chart showing the growth of smartphone sales over the past few years and the impact it has had on digital camera sales. From the chart, we can see that smartphone sales have experienced explosive growth since 2010, the same year that digital camera sales peaked. However, since then, digital camera sales have been falling year after year, while smartphones have continued to grow . According to CIPA's report, last year's total digital camera shipments fell 31.7% from the previous year. Although this situation is caused by a variety of factors, it has to be said that smartphones have the greatest impact on it. At the same time, CIPA also believes that the sales of consumer digital cameras in 2017 are still not optimistic, and we may see a decline of about 16.7%.
