Why is everyone fleeing Windows 10?

About two weeks ago, Microsoft released Win10 SDK Preview build 15042. In addition to the newly added support for Visual Studio 2017 (or later versions), Microsoft said that since the functions are relatively complete, there may not be much change in the near future. At the same time, the Windows 10 "Creators Update" codenamed "Redstone 2" is expected to release the RTM version for testing next week. Speaking of this, we could have waited for this update with peace of mind, but foreign media BetaNews bluntly stated this week that "Microsoft Win 10 is not an operating system at all."

The main reason for their dissatisfaction is the large number of ads embedded in Win10, which almost fill the entire operating space, such as the start menu, operation center, resource manager, sharing, etc. Microsoft's response to this is "big data is to blame", and it is a suggestion made through big data analysis. Well, I accept it for the time being. But we should still take a comprehensive look at the Win10 operating system to see if it is really unbearable or there are other reasons?

Defect 1: Patch update time is uncontrollable

Win10 always automatically updates or fixes some patches, but users may not want to do that at all. It is said that this is also the reason why Win10 is complained by most users. It is said that in the new version, users may have the right to set the update time independently.

Defect 2: Snooping Privacy

This problem is not limited to Windows 10. In the era of big data, many products have this problem. Users are not aware of what information the machine collects, but it is an indisputable fact that Microsoft collects telemetry. It has been more than ten years old. Although we cannot find out what its purpose is, if you trust Microsoft, you can skip this point. Microsoft seems to have responded to what types of data are collected by telemetry, and Microsoft stated that the collected information is anonymized and only anonymous information is retained, but many people are still skeptical about this.

Flaw 3: Too many ads

I won’t go into detail about this, because you’ve definitely seen the specific types of these ads if you’ve used Windows 10. The new version doesn’t seem to be planning to clean up these ads.

Defect 4: Stability

Microsoft seems to have a unique way to improve its products, which is to let users test them, just like when it released win10, it let a large user group test it for several months, and after the beta test, it also spread millions of copies for the general public to check. Gregg Keiser of Computer World once said, "Don't worry about Windows 10, consumers will test it."

But the whole process took a long time, so Win10 was not very stable when it was first launched.

Flaw 5: Hijacked Default Settings

When switching versions or performing certain operations, the user's customized settings will be changed to the default settings, such as the default file associations for pictures, videos, and songs will be changed, the default browser will be changed to Edge, PDF will be handled by Edge by default, and the old mail program will be destroyed and replaced by the Windows Mail application. Although you can reset it back, why bother?

So, is the Windows 10 Creators Update still worth looking forward to?

Based on what we’ve seen so far, here’s what you should expect to see in the Creators Update:

Professional users might get the right to "block updates," but home users are still treated as cannon fodder.

More secure, users can make a series of privacy settings, such as turning off telemetry will be easier.

Advertising may get worse, but in the short term, the advertising mechanism should not change at all.

The initial stability of a new version will not be very good until the millions of unpaid testers take action.

Of course, we have also come to the conclusion that Win10 does need to be strengthened! The operating system should be Microsoft's strong point, not to mention that Windows has had many well-received operating system versions in the past.
