Computer software development or programming jobs have become one of the highest paying professions. A recent report from BI shows that the average annual salary of software engineers in the United States has been close to $100,000 in the past two years (see figure below). In comparison, European software engineers earn much less, with an average monthly salary of $55,000, but this has increased by 9% over the same period last year, showing an upward trend. But it is worth noting that different programming language skills have different market values. Recently, Quartz evaluated the value of programming languages and gave a ranking of the 12 highest-paid programming languages. Quartz's ranking is based on data from a study conducted by the Brooklyn Institute in July this year. The following is the income ranking of different programming languages (annual salary): 1. Ruby on Rails – $109,460 2. Objective C – $108,225 3. Python – $100,717 4. Java – $94,908 5. C++ – $93,502 6. JavaScript – $91,461 7. C – $90,134 8. R – $90,055 9. C# – $89,074 10. Visual Basic – $85,962 11. SQL – $85,511 12. PERL – $82,513 From the above ranking, we can see that the market value of a programming language is not completely consistent with its popularity. Interested readers can compare and analyze the above language income ranking with an "IEEE Popular Language Ranking" we published before. Finally, although the top three programming language skills can bring you an annual salary of more than $100,000 (in the North American market), the real gold-collar worker is Salesforce architect. According to a report released by IT recruitment company Mondo in March this year, the annual salary of Salesforce architects is as high as $180,000 to $200,000.
