Android 6.0 devices are required to enable full disk encryption

The last thing everyone wants to see has happened on Android 6.0. It is really tragic. According to foreign media reports, Google has asked all manufacturers to enable full disk encryption (FDE) on Android 6.0 by default. Protecting user security is a good thing, so why is it undesirable?

In fact, when Android 5.0 was released, Google had already considered forcibly enabling the full-disk encryption feature, but **** they only chose to enable it on two devices, Nexus 6 and Nexus 9, and the consequences were undoubtedly tragic.

Enabling the "full disk encryption" function by default will seriously slow down the system's read and write performance. AnandTech previously tested the Nexus 6 running Android 5.0 and found that when full disk encryption was enabled, random read performance dropped by 62.9%, random write performance dropped by 50.5%, and sequential read performance dropped by an astonishing 80.7%.

Currently, the eMMC flash memory equipped on most Android models does not have its own encryption standard, and the processor on the phone does not have a dedicated module to handle data encryption/decryption functions. These directly lead to a significant drop in machine performance after turning on full disk encryption in Android 6.0.

When it comes to security and performance, Android 6.0 has made a choice for you, which is security, whether you like it or not.
