WeChat's fourth outage in 2015 is under emergency repair

On the morning of November 6, a large number of users reported that there were malfunctions in the backend login of the WeChat public platform, and some accounts received error messages such as failed login or no access rights.

Tencent's official online customer service immediately issued a notice saying, "Regarding the problem of unsuccessful login to the public platform and being prompted that you do not have permission to access, please do not worry. Our staff is handling it urgently. Please pay attention to the situation in the future."

Tencent did not give much explanation on the cause of the failure, only saying that it was urgently looking for the problem. Some netizens speculated that it might be related to the upgrade of WeChat background or the launch of new features.

WeChat version update notifications from Apple App Store show that WeChat released the latest version 6.3.5 on October 19. The main updates of this version include: video chat function in the group, group owner can post group announcements, group owner can be transferred to group members, and WeChat Sports can view step count icons and add people to follow. The updated content is basically not related to WeChat platform public accounts.

In the latest notice released on the official WeChat official account website, the recent news about the function upgrade comes from the article "WeChat Official Account Platform Launches WeChat Authentication Event Push for Developers" on October 10. The article states that in order to help official account developers obtain the authentication status of official accounts, the WeChat Official Account Platform has begun to provide event push for each stage of the official account authentication process, which will be pushed to the server address filled in the developer center. In addition, official account third-party platforms can also obtain the authentication event push of authorized official accounts to determine the interface permissions of official accounts, and then provide them with business functions.

It has been nearly a month since the above function was upgraded and the failure occurred, so the possibility of problems with this function is not very high.

This is not the first time WeChat has experienced malfunctions.

In September this year, some netizens reported that when WeChat was loading 99%, the page prompted "Loading data failed, please check your network settings", and there were also problems such as failure to send messages, delays after sending messages, and inability to log in after logging out of WeChat. At that time, Tencent News said that the cause of the failure was "WeChat service upgrade, which affected the sending and receiving of messages or login of some users."

If this outage is included, this is the fourth time WeChat has had problems in 2015. Earlier in January and July, there were outages due to construction work digging up the optical cables in the computer room. However, compared to ordinary WeChat users before, the ones affected this time are mostly self-media and related institutions such as enterprises and governments that have WeChat public accounts.

According to the latest data released by WeChat, the number of WeChat public accounts has exceeded 10 million, and is increasing by 15,000 per day. It is not clear how many WeChat public accounts were affected by the outage.

As of press time, some users reported that the malfunction on the WeChat public platform had not yet been resolved.
