Oreo has just been released, but Google has already started developing Android P

August 31 news It's been less than two weeks since the official release of Android Oreo, and even Google's Pixel phones have only recently received OTA updates. However, Google seems to be eager to develop the next generation Android system Android P.

A few days ago, XDA developer Mishaal Rahman said that the Android open source project has opened a new tag called "master-p", which indicates that Google has started to develop the next-generation Android operating system Android P. In addition, there are documents showing that Google has been testing this new system on Pixel phones.

From the code in the figure, we can see that the system name is Android P, and the platform version has changed from OPR1 of Android 8.0 to PPR1.

Additionally, the image above, titled "master is P only, remove old values," changes the platform version in the Compatibility Test Suite from "8.0.0" to "P" (not yet labeled Android 9.0). This indicates that further testing of commits to the master branch (all of which are under Android P) will be done to ensure that they pass the updated CTS.

In addition, the developer said that Google may have completed the development of Android 8.1, which will be launched together with the new Pixel phone.

Google's approach is actually a precedent. Last year, Android 7.1 was released with the Pixel phone, so it's not surprising that Google did the same thing again at the fall new product launch.
