Do you always accidentally click on the splash screen ads in apps? 4 ways to help you skip them

Do you always accidentally click on the splash screen ads in apps? 4 ways to help you skip them

Many apps now add splash screen ads when they are launched. Although there is generally a way to "skip" them, they are often hidden in places that are difficult for you to click, and you may accidentally open the ads. This article will provide these 4 methods to help you skip those splash screen ads that you "accidentally click on".

Method 1: Modify Hosts

Let's first take a brief look at what is the Hosts file?

The Hosts file (domain name resolution file) is a computer file used to store information about each node in a computer network. This file is responsible for mapping the host name to the corresponding IP address. The Hosts file is usually used to supplement or replace the function of the DNS in the network. Unlike the DNS, the computer user can directly control the Hosts file.

Therefore, we can use Hosts to redirect known ad servers to ad-free machines (usually their own IP addresses: 127.0.0.1) to filter out ads. AdAway uses Hosts files to remove ads and redirect ad link requests to 127.0.0.1. In AdAway, you only need to add the Hosts source download and enable it to take effect. In AdAway, you can also add blacklists/whitelists and redirects by yourself.

AdAway

Regarding the recommendation of useful Hosts sources, you can actually find many reliable ad-free Hosts projects on Github, such as:

  • Unknowntokyo Adaway
  • neoHosts

Note! Applications like AdAway that use Hosts files to remove ads require root permissions to run.

Method 2: Simulate clicking "Skip"

Android phones must be rooted to remove ads using the Hosts file, but this root alone is difficult for many people. However, with the help of barrier-free services, Bajie Assistant can help you simulate the action of clicking "skip" and easily remove ads without root.

To open Bajie Assistant, you must first enable the accessibility service and check the "Enable accessibility service and simulate clicks" box in the app. In addition, in order to remove ads all the time, Bajie Assistant, which simulates clicking "skip", needs to run in the background all the time, so please add Bajie Assistant to the background whitelist.

Bajie Assistant 2 Enable Accessibility Service

After enabling accessibility permissions, you still need to select applications and add rules to remove ads using Bajie Assistant. Therefore, you need to enable the next item "Enable floating window (automatic decoding)" under "Enable accessibility services and simulate clicks". Because the rules of Bajie Assistant come from the "automatic decoding" process, you may not understand the principle of decoding, but you can understand it like this: click on the place where the ad page appears to automatically decode, then click copy and paste to import it into the application rule list of Bajie Assistant to obtain the rules.

Tang Monk's Scriptures

However, the developer lingyu0 also developed the Tang Monk Sutra, which collected Bajie's decoding results. Now, as long as you pull down and refresh the "My Apps" list of the Tang Monk Sutra, the currently available Bajie rules will be displayed. Then click the "Save Bajie" button to view the detailed information and save it, so that you can see the effective applications in Bajie Assistant.

[[225351]] Method 3: File replacement

In order to ensure the startup speed of the App, Android applications usually download the startup page ads and store them in the mobile phone directory. Therefore, to address this weakness of startup page ads, the method of removing the startup page ads of Android Apps can be used by replacing the files.

Regarding file replacement, the Android cleaning software Dir that I introduced before has the idea of "replacement" cleaning. For example, Dir uses files with the same name to replace the advertising files of a scanned application, preventing the creation of advertising files next time, thus cleverly achieving the effect of removing advertisements.

The Monkey King Purification is a new work by developer lingyu0, which is a three-in-one version integrating Bajie, Wukong and Tang Seng, so the Monkey King Purification has more and more powerful functions. However, the file replacement of the Monkey King Purification is the same as Dir, which is to find the advertising file and replace it with an empty folder with the same name.

Monkey King Purification - Wukong

Wukong's replacement folder function is disabled by default, so you need to enable it manually and add rules. First, select an application. You don't need to modify anything at this time, just click Save Application, and then enter the interface for adding rules. There are three methods to choose from:

  • Replace folder with file (only supports empty folders)
  • Replace files with folders
  • Permissions are set to 000

Methods 1 and 2 prevent Android App from reading advertising files, while method 3 prevents Android App from reading files, thus achieving the effect of removing advertisements.

Replacement rule example

Next is to select the advertising directory, which can be searched in the storage and system directories, and finally remember to save and replace. So, how can you effectively find advertising files? You just need to remember: the name of the target directory or file generally contains fields such as ad, ads, advertise, splash, screen..

Generally speaking, you can find the directory where the application stores ads in the storage. As long as there are ad images or directories containing the above fields, it is the directory. Then, the packages in the system directory that contain the above fields are also the same.

Now, Dasheng Purification encourages users to contribute rules, so you can publish your own rules to the cloud with one click. Developers enter the database after review, so there will be a cloud rule item on the Wukong and Bajie sections. For those users who don't understand how to make rules, you can use the Bajie/Wukong cloud rules.

The specific operation is as follows: pull down to refresh in Bajie/Wukong cloud rules, and then the available rules of the installed applications will be displayed, and then click Save All to the rule list. But one thing to note is that if you use Wukong, then Wukong's rules require you to enter the file replacement to perform the "batch replace advertising files" operation.

Method 4: Use Xposed module

With the latest Xposed Beta support for Android 8.0/8.1, Xposed is very smooth to use on Android. There is no need to introduce Xposed in detail. If you have any questions, you can read this article on the minority: Everything you want to know about Xposed for Android 7.1 is here.

As the highest authority on Android, Xposed can easily modify system data, so removing ads is really a piece of cake. Moreover, I have already written an article about using Xposed to remove ads.

Summarize

For App manufacturers, advertising is of course an important means of revenue, but if excessive advertising affects the user experience and causes user disgust, isn’t it a bit of a loss?

For users, on the one hand, we can support manufacturers by clicking on ads, but on the other hand, we also hope that manufacturers will provide users with ways to skip ads. However, some manufacturers use blocking and hiding methods to prevent users from skipping ads and "cheat" users into clicking. This method is neither smart nor effective.

Ultimately, there is nothing wrong with advertising itself. We hope that manufacturers can use advertising in a more reasonable way, and we also hope that we can stop skipping them as soon as possible.
