Google's next-generation Android Q will restrict the operation of apps below 6.0 system

According to Google's naming convention, the next generation of Android will be Android Q (sorted alphabetically), and the version number may be Android 10. According to XDA, there are contribution codes for the first generation of Android in AOSP, including a system-level warning feature. When running any application, the system will check its API level, and if it is lower than or equal to 23 (Android 5.0 Lollipop or older), a warning will pop up, indicating that it may not run properly.

In fact, this feature was added in Android 9.0 Pie. For example, the ManifestViewer application based on Android 1.6 (API level 4) has a pop-up warning before calling it.

The reason why Google does this is actually for security reasons. The reason why some developers are reluctant to use the supporting APIs above Android 6.0 is mainly because the latter has stricter permission monitoring.

According to the data, starting from August 1 this year, all new applications submitted to the Play Store must be developed based on API Level 26 (Android 8.0 and above). At the same time, after November this year, all existing applications in the Play Store must also comply with this regulation, otherwise they will be removed from the shelves. Google's move is first to ensure good compatibility. At the same time, the higher the API level, the more synchronized Google's major improvements in security, privacy, memory optimization, and battery optimization.
