Is the Android era coming to an end? Google avoids talking about Android in new product launch, sparking speculation

There was little suspense about the Google Pixel 3 launch event, as the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL were already being reviewed by peers before their official debut, so we already knew what to expect. But Google omitted a key element when introducing its new products, which seemed to indirectly support the view that Android is about to be phased out.

Android is the most popular mobile operating system, but Google didn't mention the word "Android" once during its launch event. Google didn't mention Android when it launched the Pixel, and it didn't use the word when it told the world that the world's first Chrome OS laptop would support millions of apps. Some people might think that Android has been around for so many years that it doesn't matter if Google doesn't mention it. But this may not be a mistake, but rather a deliberate move by Google.

Google mentioned software several times at the launch event, but used keywords such as AI, software and Chrome OS to describe the new features of Pixel phones. In addition, Google did not highlight an important feature of Pixel, which is that Pixel is the only phone in the world that can achieve fast Android system upgrades. In October last year, Google announced that Pixel 2 phones will use the pure Android Oreo system and told consumers that they will be the first group to receive system and security upgrades.

A year later, Google may be secretly preparing for the post-Android era. It is worth noting that Google has renamed the Android Message App, and this app will be able to run on any Google operating system, no longer limited to Android.

What operating system will Google launch? It may be Fuchsia, a dynamic operating system that can run on a variety of devices. Fuchsia is easier for Google to upgrade and supports existing Android apps. We may have to wait a few years before we see Google launch a new operating system to replace Android, but we can be sure that Google almost doesn't want to talk about Android now.
