New gesture operation appears in the Android 10.0 beta: cancel the back button and rely on Home capsule to complete

Since the iPhone X removed the physical Home button, gesture operation has accelerated its popularity on iOS and Android. Among them, Google introduced native gestures on Android 9 Pie. Of course, OEM manufacturers represented by Xiaomi and Huawei have also customized their own unique solutions. On native Android 9.0, the traditional three diamond keys are changed to two, that is, the default recent program button on the far right is abandoned, and the return key and the "capsule" Home button on the left are retained.

The main operations are: single-click Home to return to the home page, single-click Back to return to the previous level, long-press Home to call out Google Assistant, short swipe upwards on Home to call out the horizontal list of background tasks, long swipe upwards on Home to call out the all-program drawer, swipe right on Home to switch to recent programs, etc.

However, in the Android Q beta system compiled at the end of January, Google made adjustments to the gesture operation logic. Simply put, it canceled the permanent return key, improved the animation smoothness of quickly switching to the last open APP, and did not allow users to turn off gestures and return to the traditional three buttons at the bottom.

Specifically, after canceling the back button, sliding the Home "capsule" to the left can achieve the effect of returning to the previous level , which further strengthens the status of gestures and replaces tapping.

The second point is to improve the animation of switching to the most recent APP, that is, quickly swiping the Home "capsule" to the right, which makes the visual effect smoother and improves the fault tolerance rate.

It should be noted that some features of the beta version are more experimental, so whether they will appear in Android Q DP1 (latest developer preview) is a big question mark. After all, gestures were not available until Android Pie DP2 last year. This year's Google I/O conference will be held from May 7 to 9 , so wait and see.
