Foreign media revealed that Huawei's backup operating system is actually Aurora OS: developed based on Sailfish OS and compatible with Android

At present, the statement of "Hongmeng/Ark OS" has not been officially confirmed by Huawei. On the 10th, a report from Russian media first revealed that the Android "backup" operating system created by Huawei was not built from scratch, but was based on the existing achievements of predecessors.

The report quoted two sources as saying that Huawei executives had discussed the use of Aurora OS with the Russian side.

Aurora OS is a mobile operating system developed by Russia. It is based on the open source Sailfish OS and can be understood as a branch of Sailfish OS. Due to its privacy and security, it has been recommended by the Russian side as an OS for the government and government-backed enterprises.

As for Sailfish OS, it is developed based on Linux and Nokia's MeeGo platform. The development team members mainly came from Nokia before it switched to Microsoft, and it was later called Jolla.

Huawei has reportedly begun testing Aurora OS on its devices .

Based on this information alone, it is still impossible to determine the relationship between Aurora OS and Hongmeng/Ark. Is this Huawei's Plan C? Interestingly, there are two blog posts on Jolla's official website, in which CEO Sami Pienimäki generously talked about the opportunity for Sailfish OS after Huawei's use of Android was restricted.

In addition, Jolla once cooperated with Sony to create a customized Sailfish X system for Xperia phones, and even released ROM packages for some models (such as Xperia X) for experience flashing, and it is compatible with Android APP .
