WeChat emoticons have been included in the judgment

According to the Legal Daily on March 3, emoticons have now become part of the evidence presented in court and have appeared in judicial documents such as court verdicts in many places.

According to reports, in a civil judgment issued by the Shenzhen Intermediate People's Court of Guangdong Province, a contract dispute case involving WeChat emoticons was ruled. Lu Hong, the creator, sent the lyrics he created to Tian Min, the legal representative of Shenzhen Daoyi Film Group Co., Ltd. on April 24, 2018. The latter indicated that he was on the way and sent the WeChat emoticon [strong].

"Combining the previous and subsequent chats between the two parties, the first-instance court held that the WeChat emoticon [强] was not an endorsement of Lu Hong's lyrics, but rather a polite reply, and could not be used as a basis for proving that the lyrics delivered by Lu Hong were in compliance with the disputed contract," the judgment read.

In another judgment of a private loan case, the lender Zhang Huifeng sent a WeChat message to the borrower Yan Hao, listing the latter's loan details. Yan Hao replied with an emoticon "OK". This emoticon meant approval in Zhang Huifeng's eyes, but Yan Hao said: This "OK" did not mean approval of Zhang Huifeng's WeChat content. The Taihe County People's Court of Anhui Province held that: the WeChat records submitted by Zhang Huifeng did not receive Yan Hao's explicit approval, and therefore the WeChat content could not be used as the basis for the latter's corresponding amount of money owed to Zhang Huifeng.

On February 28, Tencent’s official Weibo account said: “I’ve quit smoking.” Immediately afterwards, many WeChat users discovered that the cigar in the mouth of the Minion wearing a green helmet in the WeChat emojis had disappeared. Soon, this news quickly topped multiple trending search lists.
