Beijing's first batch of websites and apps are accelerating their adaptation to the elderly: Meituan, Didi and others have undergone a "facelift"

IT Home reported on June 30 that according to Beijing Daily, the Beijing Municipal Communications Administration revealed that the aging-friendly and barrier-free transformation of the region's information and communications industry is being accelerated, and the transformation of the first batch of 115 mainstream websites and 43 commonly used apps is being accelerated.

IT Home learned that the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology had previously issued the "General Design Specifications for the Aged-Friendly Internet Websites" and the "General Design Specifications for the Aged-Friendly Mobile Internet Applications (Apps)", pointing out that relevant Internet websites and apps must complete the elderly-friendly and barrier-free transformation before September 30 this year.

It is reported that this aging-friendly transformation will be combined with the daily lives of the elderly and disabled people, requiring relevant modifications to websites and apps.

In response to the needs of the elderly, companies should launch more products with functional features such as large fonts and large icons, and make the operation pages as simple as possible. For example, there is a demand for various barrier-free functions such as one-click operation, text input prompts, voice assistance, and dialect recognition capabilities.

In addition, these website apps will also be aimed at people with visual impairments. All companies need to ensure compatibility, solve the problems of difficulty in operating the "verification code", unreadable button labels and image information, and provide online customer service and other service methods that can replace telephone customer service.

It is reported that a large number of mainstream apps have been completely "renovated". For example, Meituan has launched an "offline ticket booking care version" with larger fonts, and key information such as price and reservation time is highlighted, so reservation only requires one step; Didi also provides priority dispatching services in specific scenarios for people aged 60 and above, including hospitals, supermarkets, etc.

In addition, the search engine Baidu not only launched a large-font version, but also supports "voice search function" and "voice broadcast function" to facilitate input for the elderly; Toutiao also launched a large-font version, providing special areas for square dancing, cooking, etc. for the elderly.
