Previously, Apple was heavily criticized by iPhone users and third-party repair service providers because iOS 15 would disable the Face ID function after screen replacement. However, according to iFixit repair experts, the Cupertino technology giant has "fixed" this "bug" that prevented third parties from replacing the iPhone 13 screen in the iOS 15.2 update. In fact, shortly after the release of the iPhone 13 series of smartphones, someone discovered that Apple had forcibly bound the display panel and Face ID components together. In extreme cases, even if the original screens of two new devices of the same model are replaced with each other, the Face ID component will be disabled after this operation.
Although it is unclear whether Apple did this intentionally or unintentionally, this restriction still makes it almost impossible for third parties to replace the screen for the iPhone 13. Under tremendous public pressure, Apple at least stated that it would "fix" the problem in subsequent software updates. Judging from the recent iOS 15.2 beta test version, Apple seems to have fulfilled this promise - although iFixit found after verification that the system will still pop up a warning message after replacing the screen that "Unable to verify whether the replacement parts are genuine accessories." Apple also appears to have introduced a "Service & Parts History" feature to explain in detail its concerns about unverified components in the iPhone. Apparently, Apple hopes to collect data related to non-genuine parts for "service needs, safety analysis, and improving future products." Finally, in addition to a warning message popping up on the screen, iOS 15.2 still cannot enable advanced display features such as True Tone after a third-party screen replacement. |
