Digital RMB App is online: Mobile phone number registration is available and there are three major differences from Alipay and WeChat

Recently, the Digital RMB (pilot version) App was officially launched on major application markets.

According to CCTV reports, the Digital RMB (pilot version) App has launched 49 merchants on the sub-wallet page: covering shopping, travel, life, tourism, and other categories, including JD.com, Meituan, Ele.me, Tmall Supermarket, Didi Chuxing, Bilibili, Kuaishou, iQiyi, Tencent Video, Baidu and other Internet merchants, as well as SF Express, Online State Grid (for electricity bill payment), Sinopec, China Telecom Wing Payment and other commonly used payment scenarios in life.

After actual testing, new users only need to register with their mobile phone numbers, and they can use the Digital RMB (pilot version) App for online and offline payments. Its usage is similar to electronic payment tools such as Alipay and WeChat Pay.

Personal digital wallets are divided into four levels, of which four types of wallets can be opened with only a mobile phone number, and the transaction restrictions are relatively strict, with a single payment limit of 2,000 yuan and a balance limit of 10,000 yuan;

Category 1 wallets do not have any transaction restrictions, but the processing requirements are the most stringent, requiring a mobile phone number, ID card, personal bank account, and on-site interview by the operating institution.

According to the central bank, although the payment functions are similar, there are certain differences between the digital RMB and electronic payment tools:

First, the digital RMB is the national legal currency and the asset with the highest security level.

Second, the digital RMB has value characteristics, and can transfer value without relying on a bank account, support offline transactions, and has the feature of "payment is settlement".

Third, the digital RMB supports controllable anonymity, which is conducive to protecting personal privacy and user information security.

At present, the digital RMB is only being piloted in Shenzhen, Suzhou, Xiongan, Chengdu, Shanghai, Hainan, Changsha, Xi'an, Qingdao, Dalian and the Winter Olympics venues (Beijing and Zhangjiakou). Registration is temporarily unavailable in other regions.
