Earlier today, Apple launched iOS 15.2.1 and iPadOS 15.2.1 systems, which mainly address vulnerabilities in the iPhone and iPad. The official also called on users to upgrade quickly. According to Apple's official statement, this corrective update includes an important security fix for a known HomeKit vulnerability first discovered last year. It resolves a denial of service vulnerability that could cause maliciously crafted HomeKit names to appear, which in severe cases could cause the iPhone and iPad to stop working. Apple said this was caused by a resource exhaustion issue and has now been addressed through improvements to input validation. Apple partially fixed the vulnerability in iOS 15.1 by limiting the length of names that can be set for HomeKit devices or apps, but it didn't completely fix the problem because a malicious actor exploiting the vulnerability could use a Home invitation instead of a device to trigger the attack again. Because this bug could lead to data loss in the worst case and a device reset in the best case, it’s worth updating to the iOS and iPadOS 15.2.1 update right away. |
