According to MacRumors, FingerprintJS, a browser fingerprinting service provider, has discovered a serious bug in Apple's Safari browser. The IndexedDB data storage method records website information when we visit a website and generates a database. Generally speaking, a website can only access its own database, but this bug allows the website to access the user's database and read the user's recent browsing history and personal information. All new versions of browsers using Apple's open source engine WebKit have this bug, including Safari 15 on Mac, iOS, iPadOS and other platforms, as well as some third-party browsers, such as Chrome, because Apple requires all browsers on iOS and iPadOS platforms to use the WebKit engine. However, domestic UC Browser and QQ Browser will be modified based on the WebKit engine, so it is not certain whether they have this problem. Apple has always regarded protecting user privacy and security as its own responsibility. CEO Cook even accused Facebook of stealing user privacy information for profit. Apple also launched an App permission tracking function to help users get rid of endless App surveillance. Now that the WebKit engine has such a serious bug, it is simply a slap in Apple's face. Fortunately, on the macOS platform, Apple does not require browsers to use the WebKit engine, and users can download other browsers to avoid privacy leaks. It should be noted that older browsers such as Safari 14 on the macOS platform are not affected by this bug. Due to the small number of iOS 15 users, Apple recently stopped providing security updates for iOS 14, and iOS 14 users can only upgrade directly to iOS 15. However, the new system has constant bugs, and even malicious bugs often appear. How can users feel at ease to update the system? I hope Apple can release a patch as soon as possible to resolve the bug in the WebKit engine. Now Mac users can use old versions or third-party browsers to avoid the leakage of personal privacy information. If iPhone and iPad users are worried about privacy leakage, it is best to use the browser less or find a backup Android device. |
