Who is "Satoshi Nakamoto"? This is a question that has existed since the birth of Bitcoin in 2009. This is a secret that has been kept for 6 years in the information age, but Wired said they may have found the true identity of "Satoshi Nakamoto", a 44-year-old Australian named Craig Steven Wright.
(Craig Stephen Wright) At the Bitcoin Investor Conference in Las Vegas, Wright appeared as a typical Bitcoin enthusiast: a black suit jacket, no tie, and a wrinkled shirt. He was so inconspicuous that he was not even on the list of speakers for the conference. His personal introduction was also very simple: "A scholar who did research before, but no one has ever heard of the results. I have been in contact with Bitcoin for a long time, and I have always been very low-key..." He stopped here, perhaps what he wanted to say was: "I am 'Satoshi Nakamoto', the creator of Bitcoin." This is amazing in itself: a 6-year identity mystery. Of course, a meaningful sentence can only judge that his acting skills are good, but it cannot be confirmed that he is "Satoshi Nakamoto". For 6 years, many people have actually tried to find out who "Satoshi Nakamoto" is. In March 2014, an American reporter confirmed that a Japanese American living in Los Angeles was "Satoshi Nakamoto" (pictured below), and his real name was "Dorian Prentiss Satoshi Nakamoto".
When this news was widely reported, Dorian, who was interviewed again, denied any connection with Bitcoin. The real Bitcoin founder "Satoshi Nakamoto" also stood up and denied it later that day: "I am not Dorian." This was also the first message released by his P2P foundation account after being dormant for 5 years. Later, further investigation also overturned the possibility that Dorian was "Satoshi Nakamoto." There are many uncertain news and speculations like this. There are even hackers who claim to have mastered one of the mailboxes used by "Satoshi Nakamoto" and said that they are 100% sure to reveal the true identity based on the letters in the mailbox. But the final result is that "Satoshi Nakamoto" The true identity of Wright is still a huge mystery today after more than 6 years. This is really hard to imagine in a highly information-based era. It can only be said that he anticipated and prepared for these things from the beginning. New hard evidence: a timeline completely synchronized with Bitcoin. Wired naturally would not promote such an anonymous person to the top suspect of Bitcoin without reason. They have several pieces of evidence, but there is no direct evidence to prove that "Wright is 'Satoshi Nakamoto'", but his activity records are highly consistent with the timeline of Bitcoin development. The origin of all this is that an anonymous person who is very close to Wright handed over these materials to Wired, and some direct or indirect connections between "Satoshi Nakamoto" and Wright were discovered. 1. Predicting the future Before the Bitcoin white paper was made public in November 2008, Wright's blog article in August mentioned that "he will release a virtual currency" and also mentioned "triple entry accounting." The latter is a paper on cryptoeconomics published by Ian Grigg in 2005, which describes several possible solutions, including one that is quite similar to the current Bitcoin solution. 2. Extremely similar email addresses In another blog post in November, he mentioned that readers who want to encrypt their information can contact him through information encrypted by PGP public key. PGP key is a unique string of characters that allows users to receive encrypted information in encryption software. After extracting this key and comparing it with the database on the MIT server, it was found that the key belonged to an email address [email protected]. This is only one letter different from the email address [email protected] where "Satoshi Nakamoto" sent the Bitcoin white paper in November. 3. An ironclad piece of evidence that was ignored because of the date
Another important blog post that has been deleted was published on January 10, 2009. The content is: "The Beta of Bitcoin is live tomorrow. This is decentralized... We try until it works." It is important to note that although the post was published on January 10 (it seems to be after the official release of Bitcoin on January 9), if Wright lives in eastern Australia, the post was published at 3 pm on the 9th, Eastern Time. Not long after, the post was modified, and the content became "Bitcoin, the bloodiest gossip, a place where power is hidden openly, which shocks me every time." Not long after, the post was completely deleted. A lot of data emerged in an instant: true or false In addition to these three blog posts, Wired also managed to obtain some cached data from Wright's mailbox, including some emails, transcripts, and accounting statements that confirmed the source. In many emails, Wright mentioned things related to Bitcoin, such as discussing "P2P distributed ledgers" with lawyers before the release of Bitcoin. Moreover, Wright himself is a well-known Bitcoin tycoon, and the amount of money that has been audited by the public alone exceeds 60 million US dollars (nearly 400 million RMB). In addition to this part, one of his deceased friends, David Kleiman, has a trust fund with assets of 1.1 million Bitcoins (calculated at the current price, it is worth about 500 million US dollars, 3.2 billion RMB). Although all evidence has pointed to Wright, the authors of the article, Greenberg and Gwern Branwen, still clearly stated: "This does not mean that Wright is directly declared to be 'Satoshi Nakamoto'. The most likely situation is two: either Wright invented Bitcoin, or he is a prankster with extremely sophisticated means and schemes, and he successfully makes us suspect that he is 'Satoshi Nakamoto'." It is also mentioned in the original text of Wired that the three key blog posts have traces of modification, and the most critical third blog post may not even be online before the release of Bitcoin. But since six years have passed, it is quite difficult to verify further. The drama is about to begin. I am ready. Are you? According to the latest news from China Daily, it seems that in order to verify that Wright is "Satoshi Nakamoto", the Australian Federal Police has broken into Wright's home and office in Sydney today to search. Interestingly, the police later issued a statement: "The search operation has nothing to do with media reports that Wright is the suspected creator of Bitcoin." Unlike other virtual currencies with physical guarantees, Bitcoin is inherently decentralized, and its founder itself is another embodiment of centralization. The emergence of Satoshi Nakamoto will also have a huge impact on the entire Bitcoin market. As for whether Wright is the real Satoshi Nakamoto, and the possible impact on the Bitcoin market and development, we will present it to you in subsequent reports and analysis. |
