WebQQ was launched in September 2009. It is a web-based QQ service launched by Tencent. It does not require downloading and installing QQ software. On September 30, 2014, users who logged into Tencent WebQQ saw an announcement page that read "WebQQ farewell, we will meet again sometimes, but never again." This indicated that WebQQ was about to cease service.

Now Tencent has announced that it will completely shut down the WebQQ service on January 1, 2019.
