The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology released 136 apps that violated user rights: Tencent Mobile Manager was among them

On March 12, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology recently organized a third-party testing agency to inspect mobile phone applications and urged companies with problems to make rectifications. As of now, there are still 136 apps that have not completed rectifications. The above apps should complete the rectification and implementation work before March 17. If rectification is not completed within the deadline, our ministry will organize relevant disposal work in accordance with laws and regulations.

Tencent Mobile Manager is on the list of the third batch of problematic applications in 2021 announced by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.

The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology pointed out that Tencent Mobile Manager, developed by Shenzhen Tencent Computer Systems Co., Ltd., has problems with frequent self-startup and related startup.

In addition, apps such as Zhuge Weather, 2345 Weather King, Lychee News, Qimao Free Novels, and Instant Charging Manager all have problems with infringing on user rights.

Industry insiders said that in order to avoid responsibility, each APP has formatted clauses in its privacy terms on how to collect and use consumer information, and most of them favor the APP’s own interests, so consumers can only agree passively.

Consumers are at a disadvantage in front of platform companies and need more protection from the law. Consumers are the creators of data information, and the use of consumer information should at least ensure consumers' right to know and right to choose.

Internet platforms have developed to the point where they have mastered massive amounts of data and created huge wealth. While digital technology has promoted economic development, it has also given rise to many legal issues, such as data ownership, data security, privacy protection, and the data gap.

Business models should be good, rather than stepping on the bottom line of consumer tolerance and the gray area of the law. When laws and regulations are imperfect, consumers are helpless, but large platforms cannot act recklessly.
