Researchers from Trinity College Dublin investigated the data collection practices of phones from different Android manufacturers and published their findings. Researchers found that Samsung, Xiaomi, Huawei and Realme phones all transmit large amounts of data to manufacturers and pre-installed system application developers such as Google, Microsoft, Heytap, LinkedIn and Facebook. Android community Mod LineageOS also transmits similar amounts of data to Google servers (believed to be related to the optional installation of OpenGapps), but the developers themselves do not collect data, and pre-installed system applications other than Google do not collect data. It is worth mentioning that another free software branch of LineageOS/Android, /e/OS, does not send data to developers, Google or other third parties. |
