In September, domestic 5G mobile phone shipments accounted for 70.5%

Recently, the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology released an analysis report on the operation of the domestic mobile phone market in September 2021. The report shows that in September 2021, the domestic market shipped 21.44 million mobile phones, a year-on-year decrease of 8.1%. From January to September, the total shipments of mobile phones in the domestic market totaled 249 million units, a year-on-year increase of 10.2%. In September, 58 new models of domestic mobile phones were launched, a year-on-year decrease of 3.3%; from January to September, a total of 354 new models were launched, the same as the same period last year.

In terms of the development of 5G mobile phones, the shipment of 5G mobile phones reached 15.118 million units in September, an increase of 8.1% year-on-year, accounting for 70.5% of the mobile phone shipments in the same period; 24 new models were launched, a year-on-year decrease of 14.3%, accounting for 41.4% of the number of new mobile phone models launched in the same period. From January to September, the domestic market shipped 183 million 5G mobile phones and launched 172 new models, accounting for 73.8% and 48.6% respectively.

In terms of the domestic and foreign brands in the domestic mobile phone market, the shipments of domestic brand mobile phones reached 20.268 million in September, a year-on-year decrease of 6.0%, accounting for 94.5% of the mobile phone shipments in the same period; 54 new models were launched, a year-on-year increase of 10.2%, accounting for 93.1% of the number of new mobile phone models launched in the same period. From January to September, the cumulative shipments of domestic brand mobile phones reached 224 million, a year-on-year increase of 8.9%, accounting for 90.3% of the mobile phone shipments in the same period; the cumulative number of new models launched was 320, a year-on-year increase of 0.6%, accounting for 90.4% of the number of new mobile phone models launched in the same period.

In terms of the development of domestic smartphones, smartphone shipments reached 20.811 million units in September, a year-on-year decrease of 5.4%, accounting for 97.1% of mobile phone shipments in the same period; 53 new models were launched, a year-on-year increase of 23.3%, accounting for 91.4% of the number of new mobile phone models launched in the same period. In the third quarter of 2021, smartphone shipments reached 71.658 million units, a year-on-year increase of 4.0%, accounting for 96.3% of mobile phone shipments in the same period. From January to September 2021, smartphone shipments reached 243 million units, a year-on-year increase of 11.4%, accounting for 97.6% of mobile phone shipments in the same period.
