QR code promotion, 6 invalid forms to avoid

QR code promotion, 6 invalid forms to avoid

When doing new media promotion , many operators do not pay attention to the handling of QR codes. This article sorts out 6 common types of careless QR codes - when you promote QR codes, you can compare these 6 types and try to avoid them.

I was deeply impressed by the "Ding Yizhen Window" in " In the Name of People " - because in new media promotion, especially when it comes to QR code promotion , a large number of promoters are not serious at all, which greatly weakens the promotion effect!

What is the "Ding Yizhen Window"? Let me first briefly explain it to those who haven't watched the TV series:

Ding Yizhen, deputy mayor of Jingzhou City, Handong Province (a corrupt official), carefully designed the petition window. The window is neither high nor low, and petitioners cannot stand or squat. They are completely inattentive and do nothing.

Similar to Ding Yizheng's careless window, when doing new media promotion, many operators are also completely careless in handling QR codes. I have compiled 6 common types of careless QR codes here - when you promote QR codes, you can compare these 6 types and try to avoid them.

1. Blindly expand

Please note that this means "blindly expand" rather than "blindly become arrogant". When I was working as a new media consultant for enterprises, I encountered such a scenario more than once - the designer was making a poster, and the boss slammed the table and told her: "The QR code must be big, bigger than your competitors; everyone who passes by must be able to see and scan it!" At this time, I would often quickly persuade the boss. After all, QR code promotion is not about size, but about creativity.

The picture above is a QR code advertisement for a certain company. Isn’t it very big? But people passing by couldn't sweep it because it was too big. If people really want to scan the code , they can only run to the building across the street so that they can put the QR code into the scanning box.

Of course, this is just an extreme example. However, when designing a QR code, you must consider the size of the QR code and the distance at which the code is scanned. Otherwise, the person who comes to scan the code will need to keep "back~back~back" before they can scan the code.

The picture below is a reference for QR code size. When you design an offline QR code, you can do the reverse calculation: first look at the approximate scanning distance, and then calculate the size of the QR code.

2. Fast Movement

Currently, almost no mobile phones have the “instant scan” function.

Therefore, when promoting QR codes, users must be given time to complete the actions of "take out mobile phone → open APP → aim at QR code → start scanning → scan successfully".

Therefore, for some fast-moving scenes, such as buses, cyclists, subway walls, airplane wings, etc., you can only hope that someone will scan it when it stops.

Don’t harbor delusional thoughts, thinking “Once I start posting, many people will see it and I’ll get a lot of followers!”

3. Easy to bend

The QR code is placed on the material for scanning, and an incomplete QR code obviously cannot be scanned.

When doing offline activities , many new media operators will think of "letting everyone wear clothes with QR codes printed on them, so that they will be walking QR codes", and then go searching - what's more, you will really find a store that sells customized T-shirts, and the store photos will make you excited about your own QR code promotion method .

But when it is made and worn, problems arise - everyone has a different body shape. It is fine if a friend with a straight back and a well-proportioned body can wear it; but if it is worn by a friend with a hunchback, a plump figure, or who is too thin, the QR code promotion will not work: the QR code will either be stretched or wrinkled, and it cannot be scanned at all.

Therefore, QR codes are not suitable for placing on materials that are easily bent.

If you must ask users to scan the QR code on materials that are easy to bend, then you need to make some adjustments: either replace the QR code with text, or replace the hard material.

4. No signal

To promote QR codes, one of the necessary conditions is that the person scanning the code has internet access. In some specific environments, the mobile phone signal is almost non-existent or very weak, so posting a QR code is basically ineffective.

Currently, common scenarios where "signal is not very good" include: elevators, underground parking lots, subways, mountainous areas, etc.

Of course, with the improvement of mobile hardware facilities, these scenes with no signal will become less and less. However, to be on the safe side, after determining the offline promotion channel , you'd better go to the site first to test the network signal strength, and then return to the company to see whether to place the QR code.

5. Software usage

To scan the QR code, you must use scanning software. When doing online activities, if you are already using one software to do the activity and then expect everyone to scan the code with another software, it is obviously impossible.

For example, live broadcast .

Last month, I did a live broadcast on Maimai titled "How to use the Internet to make money outside of 8 hours." Before the live broadcast, 20,000 people had already signed up and followed. Of course, I hope these 20,000 people will become my fans! But how do I promote my official account ?

I studied the teachers of the previous live broadcasts to see how they promoted themselves. After research, I found that everyone is using QR codes:

There happened to be a few teachers who had been in contact with me before, so I asked privately, and their reply was "The effect is not very good, and not many people scan it."

Is it true that no one scanned it? uncertain. The netizen has opened Maimai Live, and there are only two possibilities for him to scan the QR code: first, he has two mobile phones and uses another one to scan the QR code; second, he is completely attracted to you, takes a screenshot to save the QR code, and then uses a QR code scanning software to open the screenshot - there are too few fans like this!

So, when I was doing live broadcast, I changed the QR code to text. As a result, 50,000 people participated in the live broadcast on the day, and the number of fans growing backstage on that day exceeded the total of the previous month!

Therefore, if others do not pay attention to you, it may not necessarily be because your content is bad or your creativity is not bright, but because the steps to follow you are too complicated - with every additional step, the possibility of not paying attention to you will increase by 10%.

6. Lack of justification

When new media newcomers are doing promotion, they often "take it for granted" and think that as long as the QR code is pushed out through offline or online channels and presented to users, people will scan the code and pay attention to it.

But users don’t owe you anything! Why should I pay attention to you? What's more, with a large number of QR codes passing by users every day, why should they scan yours? Especially for official corporate accounts, will users casually follow your account and watch your ads every day?

Therefore, you need to give users a reason, or put a "bait" so that they can get some "benefits" after paying attention - free resources, special products, limited-time benefits, interaction with big names, etc.

For example, for the Maimai live broadcast mentioned above, I also told the audience to "follow and reply 'make money 1', 'make money 2', 'make money 3', etc., and download the live broadcast mind map", and then everyone came to follow and download it.

After all, many people are hearing your name or account for the first time, and at this time they may already be following a large number of accounts, so you need to give them a reason to follow you.

OK, I hope everyone can try to avoid the above 6 "Ding Yizhen-style" careless QR code promotions.

Since you are promoting the QR code, you must hope that users will scan it and pay attention to it. If you don’t handle your QR code carefully, you may waste promotional materials and channels , but end up not getting good results.
