Operations is indeed a very hard job. It is not easy to see results in the short term and it requires maintenance. It is a process from quantitative change to qualitative change. Just talking about users, when you have 10 or 100 users, many people may not care about you. But when you can drive tens of thousands or hundreds of thousands of users, it becomes very scary. If you take quality into consideration, basically if a single user operation staff has more than a thousand high-quality users in a company, the entire company will need you in many places, and you can even look down on many people.

We often say that a moderator is equivalent to half of the operation staff. At that time, Tianya Community and Sohu BBS claimed to have tens of thousands of moderators. Mop also had thousands of moderators at its peak (Mop's moderators are regularly and strictly screened). What does this mean? This is equivalent to adding several thousand more operators. Many operations personnel know that they can exchange the resources they have with partners, and we did a lot of this back then.

In fact, life is hard when you have no money, but if you learn to push yourself, you can still achieve good results. From another perspective, this is actually honing your basic skills. In this way, you will naturally know which areas can be made more outstanding if you spend money. When you have a budget, you can go with it.

In terms of cost, my requirement for the team I lead is: for the same thing, if the marketing department can accomplish it with 1 million yuan, the operations staff must be able to accomplish it with less money, and the effect can be guaranteed to be better, such as 100,000 or 200,000 yuan. If we can achieve this with the same amount of money, then my department and the company can be disbanded.

Here, I must also make one thing clear. I don’t want many bosses to see what I said above and then set traps for the operations department and deliberately reduce their budgets. This is not my intention. The operations leader must have certain demands on himself and strive for the budget that should be obtained. The company must also make reasonable and impartial demands while providing sufficient ammunition. I just said that operations staff must learn to get things done and do well even without a budget, and do even better when there is a budget. This is what operations staff should demand of themselves. Don't always say: no money, small budget, can't do the work.

Every operations staff should be a jack of all trades, and tailoring the approach to suit the individual's needs is nothing more than a change of thinking.
