According to reports from multiple foreign media, U.S. President Trump signed two executive orders on Thursday to block all transactions between the companies that own the video-sharing app TikTok and the communication app WeChat and the United States.

The executive order will take effect in 45 days (September 20), which means that the United States will then prohibit any American company or individual from doing business with TikTok's Chinese parent company ByteDance or Tencent, the company that owns WeChat.

This also means that the two companies will not be able to appear on US app stores such as Apple's App Store or Google's Play Store.

Trump administration officials said this week they were stepping up efforts to purge "untrusted" Chinese apps from U.S. digital networks, calling China's short video app TikTok and messaging app WeChat "significant threats."

In the executive order, Trump accused the TikTok app of "potentially being used for disinformation campaigns" that benefit China, and that the United States must "take strong action" against TikTok's owners to protect U.S. "national security."

In another order, Trump accused WeChat of "automatically harvesting vast amounts of information from its users," alleging that this data collection "could give China access to Americans' personal and proprietary information."
