Collection | 12 major overseas app promotion methods

This year is still a hot year for going overseas. Not only games, but also social, e-commerce, entertainment and other apps have been deployed overseas. As everyone knows, it is difficult to maintain growth abroad alone, and you also need to use some overseas promotion tools to achieve growth. If we are on zero budget, what products overseas can help.

The following methods are basically free methods, some of which are effective and some of which are not. If you have more methods, please let me know, it will definitely help my work.

1. App metadata optimization

Metadata, such as product name, icon, introduction, subtitle, keywords, etc., these optimizations are free of charge. If optimized well, it will bring a 50% growth to the App.

1) First of all, you have to give your product a unique name, preferably to make it stand out from many competitors. It is not recommended to use the name of a big company's app. For example, Luo Yonghao named one of his social products "Lia Chat Bao", which was a copy of "Taobao" and "Alipay", but it was like a flash in the pan and has disappeared without a trace.

2) Design an attractive enough icon for your APP. The icon should be easy to recognize and conspicuous enough, especially when the user's mobile phone screen is full of batches of APPs. It would be best if your APP icon can be recognized at a glance.

3)Keyword optimization. Find the most suitable keywords for your product to describe your product on the App Store. In this process, everyone knows the important role of ASO optimization. Regarding ASO, I have also written many articles about domestic and overseas ASO, which can be found in my column. You can also find a lot of relevant information and experience sharing on the Internet. Regarding tools, I often use appannie and mobileaction.

4) App size. You must control the size of your App installation package, especially the APK size of your App listed on Google Play. It is best to allow users to download it safely even on 4G network (less than 20M). According to a survey, 95% of users will consider whether to download an App based on the size of the installation package.

5) Comment optimization. User reviews and star ratings are one of the most important factors affecting an app’s ranking in the app store. You'd better ensure that the user rating of each version of your APP remains above 4 stars, and that the reviews are real as much as possible, to avoid fake reviews. If discovered by Apple, they will be directly removed from the shelves. Don't take the risk.

What should I do if I encounter multiple negative reviews? Then you should immediately apply for an emergency review from Apple for iOS and overwrite the reviews and star ratings of the old version with the new version; if it is Google Play, please immediately reply to the user in the management background, ask them to change their reviews, and invite more other users to give you good reviews. At the same time, you need to immediately determine whether there is really a problem with your product. If you have a competitor who is giving you malicious negative reviews, report it immediately, collect evidence quickly, and report it to the app store.

6) Free apps are more popular. No matter you charge one dollar or thirty dollars, most users prefer to download free apps. If you insist on making paid apps, you can make a paid version XXX Pro, which can not only bring you some extra income, but also gain more keyword traffic for you in the app store.

7) Use the invitation code. There are many successful examples of using invitation codes to let users spread the word. Studying any one of them can bring you a lot of inspiration. Google Play has also launched the Promo Code feature. Each application can create 500 Promo Codes per quarter to help developers acquire new users.

8) Submit the APP to different application markets. Unlike the various application markets in China, the main application markets abroad have always been App Store and Google Play. As long as developers do well in these two markets, I believe they can obtain most of the traffic. However, there are also some small application markets abroad that occupy a certain market share, such as the Amazon Store, Samsung Store, and some other third-party application recommendation and distribution markets such as 1mobile, appolocious, etc.

9) Strive for official recommendation from AppStore: This is every developer’s dream, but it is also very difficult. The key is to make good products and make them with care.

10) Take screenshots. The screenshots of your app in the app store must be attractive enough and able to highlight the selling points and features of your product. In addition, you should replace the corresponding screenshots in a timely manner according to the version update.

2. Use Facebook Page for promotion. The social giant Facebook has always been a battleground for App developers to promote their products. Please treat your Facebook App Page carefully.

3. Like Facebook, Twitter is also an important battlefield for app promotion.

4. Use YouTube for promotion: Create a YouTube page, collect some videos on product-related topics, and make a series of related videos. You will get unexpected results.

5. App review website : Submit the product to various review websites. If it is discovered by the editor and helps to review it, it will bring a lot of traffic. Many companies know about this promotion channel, so you can imagine how many emails the editor receives every day. But even so, don’t give up and keep submitting your emails, just in case you’re picked.

6. PR: You know your own product best, so writing some soft articles about product promotion is also a very practical method.

7. KOL operation: Recently in China, you often see that influencers have very good sales effects. The same is true abroad. After determining the country to promote, you can find local celebrities, such as KOLs on Instagram and YouTube, which can be easily done.

8. Participate in various forums: No matter online or offline, as long as you find forums and conferences related to your product, you can conduct official cooperation and gain exposure.

9. Marketing and promotion of related hot events: I guess every operator has done this to take advantage of the popularity. This is a critical period for increasing traffic. If you do it well, traffic will increase rapidly. If you don't do it well, there will be no effect at all.

10. Make sure users can find sharing and app store review portals in your app, and frequently invite your core users to share with their friends and family.

11. Answer relevant questions on various Q&A websites (such as Quora, LinkedIn Answer, Yahoo Answer, etc.) to make your product appear more frequently in places where your target users appear.

12. Email marketing: Email marketing is a very effective operation method for existing users (whether it is to attract activity or promote conversion). Foreign users rely on emails much more than domestic users, so if you want your App conversion rate and activity to be maintained at a high level for a long time, please be sure to do a good job of email marketing.

The above are some methods that can be used for free in the process of overseas operation and promotion of App. None of them works immediately. It takes many trials and errors and continuous optimization to find the method that suits your product promotion.
