They are from Afghanistan and have been "taking refuge" in China for 3 years! Netizens: It's not easy...

Recently, with the sudden changes in the situation in Afghanistan, the precious cultural relics in the National Museum of Afghanistan have also attracted attention from all over the world.

Many netizens still remember: In order to avoid the war, more than 200 important collections of the National Museum of Afghanistan were exhibited in the Palace Museum in Beijing since 2017.

This batch of cultural relics was also successively sent to Dunhuang, Chengdu, Zhengzhou, Changsha, Nanjing and Hong Kong, and was exhibited in China for about three years. More than 1.4 million visitors visited the exhibition and were moved by their fate of being displaced in the war and the persistence of their guardians.

What is the current situation of these Afghan cultural relics?

According to Cover News, the cultural relics are currently safe, but it is hard to say what the future will hold.

The love relay behind the exhibition of Afghan treasures in China is touching

Due to the turbulent situation, the National Museum of Afghanistan, which once owned more than 100,000 precious cultural relics, had most of its collections looted, destroyed, or even disappeared forever during decades of war.

In 2017, 231 exotic Afghan treasures, which had survived life-threatening situations, even been hit by artillery shells and had to seek "refuge" abroad, arrived safely in China.

In March 2017, the Palace Museum was the first to accept these Afghan treasures and held a special exhibition entitled "Rise from the Ashes: Treasures from the National Museum of Afghanistan".

After the exhibition at the Palace Museum ended in June 2017, the cultural relics were supposed to continue their tour to the United States, but the original plan was cancelled, which means that if the cultural relics cannot find the next exhibition location, they will return to Afghanistan, where the security situation is still unstable.

“Help these Afghan artifacts!” “Exhibit them for a while longer and return them when the situation improves!”

Netizens have @ed the museums and art galleries in their hometowns, asking them to lend a hand and take over the Afghan cultural relics exhibition.

Soon, museums across the country responded and prepared to "take in" these cultural relics from foreign countries.

In the following three years, these Afghan national treasures were seen in Dunhuang, Chengdu, Zhengzhou, Shenzhen, Hong Kong, etc.

The Chengdu Museum, which took over second, also wrote the slogan "Culture is immortal, the country is eternal" on the display board, expressing its blessing for Afghanistan to get out of the war.

In 2020, after completing their trip to Hong Kong, these cultural relics from Afghanistan returned home smoothly.

What is the current situation of these Afghan cultural relics?

Curator: It is safe now.

On August 14, in a related report in National Geographic magazine, Rahimi, director of the National Museum of Afghanistan, said that he was "very worried about the safety of our staff and collections."

The National Museum of Afghanistan published an announcement in Persian and English on its official social media account, which implored security agencies, international organizations, the Taliban and other relevant personnel not to destroy or steal cultural relics.

As soon as this information came out, everyone was very worried about the fate of these precious cultural relics that had been wandering in more than 10 countries in the world for 14 years.

According to Cover News, Nadir, director of the External Relations Department of the National Museum of Afghanistan, said that the cultural relics are currently in Kabul and are temporarily safe, but the situation in the entire city of Kabul is unclear. "Because there have been some looting incidents in Kabul, I don't know if anyone will take the opportunity to rob the museum. I don't know what will happen now, the situation is still unclear."
