Explore the mysteries of physics at the Beijing Science Carnival "Abstract Physics Laboratory"

Why do apples always fall to the ground when they fall from a tree? Who made the first ruler and when? Who was the first person to come up with the concept of "measurement"? ... On September 11, the 11th Beijing Science Carnival officially kicked off. At the abstract physics theme exhibition held at the main venue, Beijing Science Center, these questions can be answered.

In order to cultivate the public's scientific thinking, encourage young people to learn scientific knowledge and stimulate innovation, this science carnival held a series of offline exhibitions with rich forms and diverse contents around the theme of scientific thinking. Among them, as the most distinctive innovative exhibition, the "Abstract Physics Laboratory" of the abstract physics theme exhibition has become the most popular exhibition area of this carnival since its launch.

It is understood that this abstract physics exhibition takes "Journey into the Physical World" as its main line and "Through observing interactive experiments, abstractly summarizing the laws and knowledge therein, and thus learning how to solve problems in physics" as its theme. It has selected high-quality interactive exhibits from the physics discipline of the Mobile Science Center, aiming to follow the science center's development concept of "combining exhibitions and education with teaching as the main focus", and adopts the form of observation and interactive experience. Through the audience's observation, interaction, experience, and learning of the exhibits, the public can participate closely in the demonstration and teaching of physical experiments, helping the public understand the scientific thinking and scientific methods behind the appearance of physics, master the scientific approach of abstract thinking, learn the thinking of scientific discovery, and learn new methods of physical thinking.

In the exhibition hall of over 500 square meters, the "Abstract Physics Laboratory" presents more than 80 sets of interesting interactive exhibition teaching aids to the public. According to different themes, the exhibition area is divided into three exhibition areas: "Traveling through the Time Tunnel (History of Physics Development)", "Swimming in the Sea of Physics (Optical Island, Mechanics Island, Energy Island, Electromagnetic Island)" and "Exploring the Experimental Space (Experimental Physics)". Through various graphic display boards and multimedia presentations, the audience can not only learn scientific knowledge related to physics, but also integrate it with the help of interesting interactive experiences and interactive experiments.

▲The "perpetual motion pendulum" exhibit is made using the perpetual motion principle

In the huge "time and space tunnel" with a width of more than 2 meters, the audience strolls in the vast "long river of physical universe". Countless scientists and physical events that have played an important role in human development are engraved on it, just like the eternally shining stars in the sky, lighting up the pace of human progress.

In the physical experiment space exhibition area, the exhibition takes the history of human measurement of time, space, and mass as the main line, and vividly displays a series of classic physical principles including Galileo's exploration of the inclined plane experiment and Bernoulli's principle of fluid mechanics. It not only allows the audience to intuitively and clearly understand the various physical principles "hidden" in life, but also allows people to learn about the process of scientists' research and exploration, encouraging young people to dare to question and innovate, and then cultivate their scientific questioning spirit, rational verification spirit, brave exploration spirit, and bold innovation spirit.

In addition to the rich and interesting exhibits, the exhibition site also opened an interactive activity called "Physical Thinking Cultivation Seminar". Here, children followed the on-site commentators to explore physical common sense from "Along the River During the Qingming Festival" and explore the wisdom of the ancients in using physical principles from equipment such as wheels and suction cups.

Can a "person" keep sawing without stopping? Is there an engine that can provide power continuously? How do tiny humans observe the rotation of the giant earth? ... With these curiosities and questions, let us learn to scientifically observe, measure, compare, analyze and summarize the relationship and laws between abstract substances in this brainstorming that blends vision, feeling and touch, show the physical phenomena in nature, summarize the laws behind them, and understand the unique mysteries of physics in practice.
