Remembering Huang Weilu: He wrote a "missile life" with his entire life

Remembering Huang Weilu: He wrote a "missile life" with his entire life

This is a "student's notebook" from more than 80 years ago

Uniform letters and punctuation

Detailed and exquisite drawings

People can't help but sigh

Just like printed

The owner of this notebook

is

Academician Huang Weilu, the hero of "Two Bombs and One Satellite"

Ten years ago today

He left us quietly.

Mr. Huang not only has good notes

Full of pride and ambition

He spent his life taking practical action

Explains the belief and original intention of serving the country

He has a high degree of loyalty to the Party

The deep love for the motherland is fully integrated into the missile industry

China must develop missiles

In 1943, Huang Weilu went abroad to study with the dream of saving the country through science. He believed that although science has no borders, people who study science have a motherland. After completing his studies, he resolutely returned to China with the ideal of serving the motherland. Huang Weilu (center) took a photo with his roommates near his residence in London, England in 1946

In the 1960s, Huang Weilu devoted himself to the development of missiles, determined to develop China's own "respectable missile" to win the Chinese people's ambition! He has always been fighting on the front line of missile development, creating one brilliant achievement after another in the desolate Gobi Desert.

In November 1960, China's first missile, "1059" (Dongfeng-1), was successfully launched, achieving a breakthrough in the history of missiles in China's military equipment! **** In June 1964, "Dongfeng-2" was a complete success, opening a new page in the history of independent research and development of China's missile development! **** On October 27, 1966, China's first atomic bomb launched by a missile was successfully exploded at the designated location for nuclear testing. The results of China's missile development and testing shocked the world! It took Huang Weilu and his colleagues only ten years to achieve a breakthrough in China's missile technology, making progress that foreign media described as "incredible like a myth."

China must develop solid-state missiles

In the 1960s, my country had successfully developed atomic bombs and liquid surface-to-surface strategic missiles. However, liquid missiles have a long preparation time and poor maneuverability and concealment, and lack secondary nuclear strike capability.

Huang Weilu (third from left, second row) and his colleagues took a group photo during the test of the Nanjing Yangtze River Bridge in July 1970

**Huang Weilu was appointed as the chief designer of the "Julang-1", my country's first solid-fuel submarine-to-ground strategic missile. **In order to accurately grasp the specific situation, Huang Weilu traveled all over the country. He found that a huge pool was being built on the Loess Plateau to simulate the conditions for submarine underwater launch. Facing gusts of wind and sand, Huang Weilu stood in front of the pit being dug by hundreds of workers, frowning. Later, Huang Weilu proposed a three-step launch test procedure of "platform, tube, and boat". This saved the investment in a huge pool, greatly simplified the test facilities, and saved research and development funds and time.

On October 12, 1982, a fire-breathing dragon jumped out of the water on the Bohai Sea... After more than a decade of preparation, the first generation of solid submarine-launched missiles was finally successfully developed . The success of the test shocked the world, and China had a second nuclear strike capability !

The "Golden Rules" in Aerospace Systems Engineering

Anyone who knows about aerospace knows that there is a "four commons" principle that has always been regarded as the "golden rule" in the coordination of aerospace model systems, namely: discuss problems together, overcome difficulties together, control margins together, and bear risks together.

Huang Weilu, chief designer, is listening to Chief Designer Assistant Song Zhaofa talking about technical issues at the expanded meeting

The "four common" principle was first proposed by Huang Weilu at the first expanded meeting of chief designers of submarine-to-ground missiles. At that time, the development of the missile model encountered a problem that was difficult to solve in the short term. At this critical juncture, Huang Weilu decisively decided to hold the first expanded meeting of chief designers to discuss problems and overcome difficulties together. As for risks, Huang Weilu also made it clear: "As the chief designer, I must first take responsibility."

"Cutting" flesh to "replenish" missiles

There was a period of time when Huang Weilu often felt exhausted due to the large number of models he was developing and the tight schedule. He had to go to the hospital for a checkup. The long diagnosis sheet surprised the doctor. What kind of work did this man do to have so many diseases - duodenal ulcer, ureteral stones, heart disease, etc.

Huang Weilu and members of the test team took a group photo at the first launch of the Chang Zheng-2 satellite at the Xichang Satellite Launch Center on August 14, 1992.

In 1982, the new submarine-launched missile developed by Huang Weilu was successfully launched. Huang Weilu, who was already 66 years old, lost 11 kilograms due to overwork. People said that he cut out his own flesh and blood and put it on the missile! But he himself said: " 11 kilograms is nothing compared to the missiles that are often calculated in tons, but putting this flesh and blood on the missile has achieved the hope and pride of a nation! "

He devoted his life to the missile industry and pioneered China's solid strategic missiles, laying the foundation for the development of China's rocket and missile technology! The missile weapons he forged have become the courage of the country; the noble spirit he left behind has turned into the soul of the sword. Lying on his sickbed, he still missed aerospace and missiles. He said, if there is another life, I will still work on missiles...

On the evening of November 23, 2011

Huang Weilu passed away

Died at the age of 95

Before his death

Once left these sixteen words

"Inheriting the spirit of two bombs and one satellite,

Bravely shoulder the heavy responsibility of national rejuvenation. "

I hope that future generations of young people will

The spirit of "two bombs and one satellite" continues

Make China develop better

Let us pay the highest respect to Mr. Huang!
