14 Best-selling School Bags Review: Which One Can Protect Your Backbone? Which One Is More Durable?

14 Best-selling School Bags Review: Which One Can Protect Your Backbone? Which One Is More Durable?

It is the beginning of the new school year. For parents, the most troublesome thing is to buy stationery for their children. It is really difficult to choose from the colorful stationery. If you are not careful, you may buy products that do not meet national standards and may harm your child's health.

So this school season, as usual, we will test the school bags that all children will use.

We purchased 14 backpacks suitable for children of lower school age (grades 1 to 4) from flagship stores and official authorized stores, with prices ranging from RMB 45 to RMB 140. We will evaluate them in terms of chemical hazards, physical properties, and performance.

We only evaluate whether they are harmful to children and display the evaluation results. You can make a purchase based on your actual situation.

The sample fee for this evaluation is RMB 2,761.12 + the testing fee is RMB 21,500 (public price) = RMB 24,261.12.

Are these school bags really reliable? Let's take a look.

In order to attract children's attention, school bags are often made very fancy, and some are decorated with decorations, plastic handles, plastic logos, etc. Behind these beauties, there may be invisible chemical hazards hidden - phthalates.

Earlier, we detected a large amount of phthalates in book covers, children's skipping ropes, yellow ducks, etc.

Driven by curiosity, children like to touch all kinds of things with their hands. Let children develop a good habit of washing their hands before eating, which can avoid the intake of phthalates to a certain extent.

Dad Review refers to the mandatory standard GB 21027-2020 "General Safety Requirements for Student Supplies" to be implemented in 2022 to test phthalates.

Among the 14 samples, 12 samples have a total phthalate content of more than 1000 mg/kg in accessible (frequently/large area) plastic parts.

When children go to and from school, they often jump around with their schoolbags on their backs, which requires that all accessories and the overall joints of the schoolbag must be sturdy and durable.

We conducted performance tests on the durability of the backpack in the laboratory.

Among all the samples, only one had a broken thread at the connection between the shoulder strap and the bag body after being tested according to the standard, indicating poor durability.

The remaining 13 items all meet the standards they implement.

In addition to chemical hazards, the back protection performance is also valued by parents. Because the schoolbags of primary school students are really too heavy, with books, they can easily weigh 10 kilograms.

The spine-protecting backpack can disperse the pressure of the backpack to the back and waist through the spine-protecting design of the shoulder straps, three-dimensional sponge on the back and other aspects.

Backpacks with three-dimensional sponges on the back are also more breathable and cooler in summer. There are also documents showing that backpacks are more comfortable to carry when the pressure is dispersed on the shoulders, back, and waist.

Among the 14 samples, 4 backpacks have three-dimensional filling sponges, which provide support at the bottom and provide better spine protection.

In terms of performance, we paid attention to the weight of the backpack, the shaking feeling when loaded, and the reflective strip design.

Many schools do not allow books and school supplies to be left in school, and children have to carry a lot of things every day. At this time, it is very important to have a light weight and little shaking when carrying weight.

On the one hand, it is comfortable to carry, and on the other hand, the things in the bag will not bump around and make the child stagger when walking.

Weighing the backpacks, the weight of the 14 backpacks ranged from 0.44kg to 0.89kg (approximately the weight of 1 to 1.5 bottles of 550 ml mineral water), which basically meets the requirements of WS/T 585-2018 "Hygiene Requirements for School Bags for Primary and Secondary School Students" issued by the National Health Commission, which is between 0.5kg and 1.0kg .

As for the feeling of shaking when carrying weight, we found first grade children, asked them to carry 2 kg of books, and conducted subjective evaluation by walking, running and jumping.

The final result is as follows:

During testing, we found that books shook less when there were elastic bands in the backpack to secure the books.

The reflective strip design is related to children's safety at night. Children of younger age are not tall enough and are easily ignored by drivers at night. The reflective strips can make children be seen faster and allow drivers to avoid them in advance.

The backpack has reflective strips on the front, sides and shoulder straps, which makes it safer at night.

According to the location distribution and area size of the reflective strips, numbers 2, 4, 5, 6, 11 and 13 are safer at night.

Based on comprehensive evaluation, we recommend:

As parents, choosing schoolbags for children is a headache. We want safe and comfortable schoolbags, but children want Ultraman, Elsa, and Olaf...

Smart parents can first help their children screen out a group of safe and comfortable school bags, and let the children choose the specific styles themselves.

First of all, we need to determine whether a school bag is safe and harmless to children.

In addition, as something that children carry on their backs every day when going to and from school, the comfort of the schoolbag is particularly important.

Schoolbags are a necessity for children to go to school, carrying the love and hope of parents. However, there are still many schoolbags on sale that may affect children's health.

We will continue to review backpacks year after year, and one day every backpack will be qualified and comfortable.

The “double reduction” policy has been introduced. We hope that children’s burden can be substantially reduced, starting with making their school bags lighter.
