The "alkaline water myth" is back? Experts have only three words to say: unscientific!

The "alkaline water myth" is back? Experts have only three words to say: unscientific!

Can drinking alkaline water cure diseases? Is "acidic constitution" the source of all diseases? Can alkaline water regulate the body's acidity and alkalinity?

These "scientific rumors" that were popular in the early years have been exposed by authoritative organizations as deliberately created "health scams". However, although the "alkaline water myth" was falsified in previous years, it has "revive" in some marketing propaganda in recent years.

The routine used by businesses to create "health scams" is often: first spread "scientific rumors" to build momentum for the product, then target the common "health anxiety" of modern people to accurately market the product, and finally stimulate potential consumers to buy.

Previously, the China Consumers Association has explained in a popular science manual that the acidity and alkalinity of water is determined by the ions in the water. If the hydrogen ion content is high, the water is acidic, and if the mineral ion content is high, the water is alkaline. However, the ion state is not stable, so water is neutral in most cases.

The popular science manual points out that the human body's pH value does not require special intake of acidic or alkaline food or water to maintain, because the human body will stabilize the pH value within the normal range during normal metabolism, and this acid-base balance is not easily affected by food or drinking water.

At the same time, some businesses are hyping up various types of functional waters such as "ion water", "small molecule water" and "space water", which are flooding the market, and some of them even claim to have health functions. The China Consumers Association's popular science manual also points out that these functional waters have no medical or health functions and are purely misleading products.

"Drawing the key points"

1. Good water must be slightly alkaline, but slightly alkaline water is not necessarily good water.

2. The pH value of drinking water has little impact on consumers.

3. The statement that "drinking weak alkaline water is more beneficial to health" has no scientific basis, and the acid-base balance of the human body is difficult to change by drinking water.

4. "Functional water" such as "ionized water", "small molecule water" and "space water" do not have any health functions.

So, don't worry about the pH of water! Water is the source of life, and drinking too little or too much water can be harmful to human health. Generally speaking, a healthy adult needs about 2500 ml of water per day, remember!
