Back pain should be a very common phenomenon in life. According to statistics from the World Health Organization, about one-third of the world's population has suffered from back pain at some time.

Sitting at a desk for a long time, standing in the wrong posture, not liking to exercise, and liking to carry a shoulder bag... These habits will put a heavy burden on your back! However, such back pain can be relieved after you change the habit or take a few days off and do some stretching. But if the pain lasts for a long time and is accompanied by other discomforts, it may be a disease that has come to you and should not be ignored!

What diseases may back pain in different locations indicate? Today, the editor will teach you how to distinguish them.

Left back pain

May indicate cardiovascular disease

The human heart is usually on the left side, so back pain caused by heart disease is usually concentrated on the left side of the back. Among them, the most typical ones are angina pectoris, acute aortic dissection and myocardial infarction.

Angina, squeezing feeling

When angina pectoris occurs, the warning signal sent by the heart may be transmitted to the precordial area, or to the left shoulder, jaw or even the back, causing back pain. The pain is oppressive and accompanied by profuse sweating, chest tightness, shortness of breath, palpitations, etc.

The discomfort lasts about 2 to 5 minutes and can be relieved by resting or taking nitroglycerin.

[Diagnostic method] The diagnosis of angina pectoris requires multiple examinations such as electrocardiogram, electrocardiogram stress test, coronary artery CTA, and coronary angiography.

Myocardial infarction, severe and prolonged

The pain of myocardial infarction will be more severe, and may be accompanied by sweating and fainting; and it will last longer, up to 1 hour or even several hours; in addition, it is often not relieved by sublingual medication, and the symptoms may persist.

[Diagnosis] Clinical diagnosis is generally made through electrocardiogram, blood test for myocardial enzymes and coronary angiography.

Notice

Elderly people, diabetic patients and female patients are prone to atypical myocardial infarction, which may not cause obvious pain but may be accompanied by other symptoms, such as dyspnea, syncope, headache, nausea, vomiting, fatigue and dizziness. Therefore, people with cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases such as the three highs should call 120 immediately if they experience these discomforts.

Acute aortic dissection, tearing sensation

Most of the pain of acute aortic dissection is transmitted from the front chest to the back. The symptoms are tearing or knife-like pain in the chest, back or abdomen that occurs within a few seconds, with a feeling of impending death.

It is also often accompanied by high blood pressure, especially when there is a big difference in blood pressure between the two arms or lower limbs.

[Diagnostic method] Generally, chest and abdominal color Doppler ultrasound and active CTA examinations can confirm the diagnosis.

Back pain

It may be duodenal ulcer, pancreatitis

The duodenum is located in the upper abdomen, between the stomach and the jejunum; the pancreas is a long and narrow gland located behind the peritoneum in the upper abdomen. They are both close to the peritoneum. Once the celiac plexus is stimulated and pain is produced, it will radiate to the back.

Duodenal ulcer

People who are infected with Hp; those who are under long-term mental stress and emotional instability; and those who like to drink alcohol, strong tea, coffee and other stimulating foods are all at high risk of duodenal ulcers.

[Characteristics] Regular, cyclical upper abdominal pain is the main manifestation of peptic ulcer, while duodenal ulcer is often accompanied by hunger pain. The pain is severe when the stomach is empty and can be relieved after eating. In addition, it may be accompanied by symptoms of heartburn, heartburn, and even nausea.

It should be noted that if there is only upper abdominal pain but no back pain, it may be that the duodenal ulcer occurs on the anterior wall of the bulb; if there is back pain, then the duodenal ulcer may occur on the posterior wall of the bulb.

remind

Ulcers must be treated promptly if they occur, otherwise the patient may experience massive bleeding, perforation, obstruction, repeated attacks, and even cancer.

pancreatitis

People who often overeat, eat too greasy food, are alcoholics, and have gallstones are all at high risk of pancreatitis.

[Characteristics] 95% of pancreatitis patients will experience persistent abdominal pain, more than half of whom may experience back pain. The pain is aggravated when lying on the back and relieved when bending the waist and knees.

It may also be accompanied by abdominal distension, nausea and vomiting, which cannot be relieved by reduced food intake; or persistent fever that is not responding to ordinary antipyretic drugs.

remind

If pancreatitis is not treated correctly when it is mild, it can easily turn into a severe condition. At this time, shock, renal failure, necrosis and infection of the pancreas itself, and even death may occur!

Lower back pain

It may be ankylosing spondylitis.

Ankylosing spondylitis is often referred to as the "immortal cancer". If not controlled in time, it can affect the sacroiliac joints, gradually cause serious spinal deformities in the later stages, and even damage the internal organs and various organs of the human body. At the same time, it affects mental health, causing patients to have depression, anxiety and other negative emotional problems, disrupting normal work and life.

【feature】

① Pain and stiffness in the lower back and sacroiliac area, which lasts for more than 3 months. The symptoms are more obvious after getting up in the morning and are relieved after physical activity.

②Afterwards, it will be difficult to move the neck and chest, and breathing will be difficult. In severe cases, the patient will walk unsteadily and eventually develop a hunchback deformity.

③It may also be accompanied by persistent fever, general fatigue, red and swollen eyes, loss of appetite, etc.

Pain along the spine

It may be a bone and joint problem

Osteoporosis and bone hyperplasia are common bone diseases among middle-aged and elderly people, and they can both cause back pain.

Primary osteoporosis

Osteoporosis is a systemic skeletal degeneration caused by a decrease in bone mass, characterized by destruction of bone microstructure, increased bone brittleness, and susceptibility to fractures.

[Characteristics] Generally, bone pain will occur when the bone mass loss is more than 12%. The pain often spreads to both sides along the spine, slightly relieved when lying on the back or sitting, and aggravated by stretching or standing or sitting for a long time.

If the pain persists for a long time, the person may become shorter, have a hunchback, and have spinal deformities, accompanied by visceral dysfunctions such as chest tightness, difficulty breathing, abdominal distension, and constipation. What's worse, sneezing and coughing may cause fractures.

Bone hyperplasia

Osteophyte is a chronic joint disease caused by joint degeneration, which causes wear and tear of articular cartilage, allowing calcium and other minerals to be released from the bones to form bone spurs.

【Features】

When bone hyperplasia occurs in the spine and the bone hyperplasia around the vertebrae is relatively large, irritating the ligaments and soft tissues, it may cause similar symptoms such as back pain.

It is a persistent dull pain that worsens with activity. As the condition worsens, the joints become swollen, fluid accumulates, joint movement becomes limited, and even deformed.

In general, don't ignore back pain. Symptoms are only auxiliary identification. You should go to the hospital to find out the cause.
