· Thanks to economic development and publicity and education, drowning deaths have been decreasing in recent years. In 1990, about 15 people died of drowning in China for every 100,000 people. In 2019, this number dropped to about 4 people per 100,000 people. In addition, contrary to imagination, areas along rivers, lakes and seas such as Jiangnan Water Village are not high-incidence areas for drowning. This may be related to publicity and education and more formal swimming places. Studies have shown that central and western regions such as Xinjiang, Anhui, Guizhou, and Sichuan are actually high-incidence areas for drowning deaths in my country.

Surprisingly, children under 5 years old and the elderly over 75 years old are the high-risk groups for drowning. Drowning incidents often occur among these people not because they are naughty, but more likely due to slips or accidents. In addition, the places where these people drown are sometimes not rivers, lakes or seas, but buckets, toilets and other places at home. According to statistics, more than 90% of rural children are unattended when they drown, and nearly two-thirds of drowned children are not rescued when they drown. Therefore, these people need more care.
