What would happen to humanity if the Earth lost its atmosphere?

Generally speaking, the less noticeable something is around us, the more important it may be, and this is the case with the Earth's atmosphere.

The Earth is a planet full of life, unique in the solar system, and it is the unique natural environment of the Earth that makes it all possible. In order to nurture life, the distance between the Earth and the Sun must be just right, and there must be the source of life on Earth, that is, liquid water, but the most important thing is the atmosphere. The existence and development of life requires continuous energy intake from the outside world, and the only source of energy on Earth is the sun, but sunlight is a double-edged sword. It can not only bring huge energy to the Earth, but also bring fatal harm to life.

If there is no atmosphere to block it, life will be directly exposed to sunlight and will be killed by it quickly. This is one of the reasons why Mars cannot nurture life.

The reason why the earth has an atmosphere is because of its own gravity, but gravity cannot resist the attack of the solar wind, so in order to maintain the atmosphere, it also needs the protection of the magnetic field. Mars has no magnetic field, so the upper atmosphere is easily blown away by the solar wind, and such a planet with a thin atmosphere naturally cannot create conditions suitable for life to survive. Of course, a long, long time ago, Mars may have had a magnetic field, and perhaps life was born on Mars at that time, but we don't know yet.

Since the atmosphere is so important to life, what would the Earth be like without it?

How long can humans survive on such a planet? Probably no more than 3 minutes. If the Earth's atmosphere suddenly disappears, the Earth will immediately fall into darkness, whether it is the side facing the sun or the side facing away from the sun. Why? The reason why the daytime on Earth is so bright is the result of the cooperation between the sun and the Earth's atmosphere. Without the scattering effect of the atmosphere, there will be no blue sky and white clouds. Although sunlight can still reach the Earth, it is like a giant searchlight in the dark night. It can provide us with light, but there is no way to make the Earth reproduce the daytime scene. This can be understood by referring to the moon, because the moon also has no atmosphere.

Although the earth has fallen into darkness, the sunlight shining on our bodies makes us feel hot. It is a real scorching heat. Without the protection of the atmosphere, the human body has no way to withstand the radiation brought by the sunlight, not to mention that there are a large number of harmful cosmic rays in the universe.

Next, we will see a large number of meteorites falling to the ground. Under the impact of these meteorites, volcanoes and earthquakes begin to become more frequent. Why is this so? Because there is no protection from the atmosphere.

Because of the protection of Jupiter and the garrison of the Moon, the Earth is not easily hit by meteorites, but that doesn't mean that nothing will fall to the Earth.

In fact, a large number of small meteorites visit the earth every day, but these meteorites are too small. They disappear completely in the friction with the atmosphere before reaching the surface. Only a few relatively large ones have the opportunity to fall to the ground before being completely worn away. But when the atmosphere disappears, everything becomes different. Even the smallest meteorites can fall to the surface. Although they are small, they are fast and the impact will bring certain disasters.

Although these changes are terrible, the most terrible thing is that without the atmosphere there is no way to breathe.

Humans can still survive without food or water for a period of time, but they cannot survive without breathing for even a moment. How long can a person survive without breathing? I think that one minute without breathing is the limit, but my former chemistry teacher told me that if pushed to the limit, everyone can hold their breath for 3 minutes. Although I have not been able to hold their breath for 3 minutes, let's assume that what she said is correct, that is, when the earth's atmosphere disappears, human life will only have the last 3 minutes left.
