They are characterized by solid structure, large cargo capacity and good maneuverability, and are suitable for ocean voyages. In the 15th century, the development of sailing ships in ancient China entered its heyday, and the shipbuilding process and technology were world-leading. Fuchuan was one of the main representative ship types in the fleet of the great navigator Zheng He's seven voyages to the West. The large scale and long duration of Zheng He's voyages to the West not only made it a feat in the history of ancient Chinese navigation, but also created a magnificent chapter in the history of world navigation. The Central Fu Ship in the China Maritime Museum has a pointed bow, a wide stern, and upturned ends. It is 30.6 meters long, 8.2 meters wide, 3.5 meters deep, with a main mast 26.6 meters high. The total weight of the hull is about 280 tons, and the designed displacement is 253.6 tons. The ship is huge. This ship model is based on the sea vessels in Zheng He's voyage fleet. It was built in the style of Ming Dynasty Fuzhou ships according to historical documents, and followed traditional shipbuilding techniques such as mortise and tenon joints and watertight compartments. The bow and stern are painted with lion heads and egrets, tied with bright red ribbons. In addition, in accordance with the tradition of maritime culture, a seated statue of Mazu sculpted by Putian, Fujian, is enshrined in the second-floor cabin at the stern, which not only vividly restores the sailing conditions of the Fuzhou ships in the past, but also reflects a good display and viewing effect. |
