These "sea bonsai" in Zhoushan ~

In fact, there are many small islands in Zhoushan Archipelago that can be likened to bonsai on the sea, including Xiaoyangshan Island in Shengsi, Shenggu Reef, Chengmentou Reef, Sijiao Laoshushan Island, Huajiao Reef, E Reef, Longyazhuang Reef, Fan Reef, and the Honeycomb Reef in Daishan.

However, most people think that the islands and reefs that can be compared with "bonsai" are far away from the big islands, with inconvenient transportation and difficult to appreciate. What is less known is that right next to us, near the Diaoliang reclamation area, there is a group of small islands with both mountain and sea advantages.

This group of small islands, with steep cliffs, bright colors and beautiful shapes, can be called the best of bonsai and the scenic spots of islands and reefs. These are Xiaolianghengshang Reef, Xiaolianghengxia Reef and Damaigan Reef on the north side of Lianghengshan Island in Putuo District. Among them, Xiaolianghengxia Reef is the most beautiful.

Liangheng Upper Reef and Xiaoliangheng Lower Reef were originally called Xiaoliangheng Reef. Because it is adjacent to Liangheng Island (formerly an independent island, now connected to Zhoushan Island after reclamation), it was named after it. In 2010, with the approval of the provincial government, it was divided into Xiaoliangheng Upper Reef and Xiaoliangheng Lower Reef.

Xiaoliang Hengshang Reef is located in the north, which is relatively short, with an area of 1,320 square meters, a coastline of 140 meters, and a highest point of 6.2 meters above sea level. There are also large and small reefs and lake-colored reefs in the north, with light poles built on the reefs. Xiaoliangxia Reef is located in the south, with an area of 1,450 square meters and a highest point of 18.1 meters above sea level.

Judging from the numbers, the two islands are at a very low altitude and nothing special. However, since both islands are composed of rhyolite porphyry of the Jiuliping Formation formed in the Early Cretaceous about 120 million years ago , they are bright red in color, with steep cliffs and lush green shrubs growing on the top, just like a miniature version of Mount Hua, or a natural bonsai carefully designed by nature for the Diaoliang reclamation area, their value is immeasurable.

People in good physical condition can climb the cliff to the top of the island, where they can overlook the vast ocean, the vast wetlands and the latest construction achievements of the Diaoliang reclamation area, and watch flocks of egrets and sporadic black swans soaring in the blue sky. The feeling is beyond description by just one word: "beautiful"!
