The typhoon is coming with great force. How can we defend ourselves and avoid risks?

Preparation before a typhoon

1. Pay attention to the weather forecast at any time and pay attention to the direction of the typhoon

When a typhoon comes, it is important to keep abreast of the typhoon's dynamics and move people to safe areas in a timely manner, avoiding places that are likely to cause casualties (dilapidated housing, factories, sheds, temporary buildings), and do not take shelter from the wind and rain in the above places.

2. Reduce the possibility of falling objects from high altitude

External air conditioners and high-altitude facilities must be reinforced, and items such as flower pots exposed on balconies and windows should be moved indoors.

3. Fixed doors and windows

Doors and windows should be tied and fastened tightly, especially aluminum alloy doors and windows. Put away all kinds of hanging things inside and outside the house; close doors and windows, and nail wooden boards when necessary.

4. Prepare emergency items for escape

Check the lines, prepare flashlights and candles, and store drinking water in case of power outages or water shortages; prepare extra food and vegetables for one or two days, do not go out unless necessary, and stop all outdoor group activities and large indoor gatherings.

What to do when a typhoon comes?

When a typhoon comes, most people will stay at home quietly. For some people who stay at work or go out for work for various reasons, they should pay more attention to safety during typhoon days.

1. Do not stay in the danger zone

When a typhoon hits, do not stay near glass doors and windows, shabby huts, temporary sheds, or under tall buildings such as billboards and neon lights. In addition, try to avoid walking on embankments and bridges near rivers, lakes, and seas to avoid being blown down by the wind or falling into the water.

2. Units resist typhoons and avoid dangers

When staying at work to resist the typhoon, you must be vigilant, protect the safety of public property, and even more so consider personal safety. Prepare emergency supplies such as sandbags, flashlights, raincoats, rain boots, tarpaulins, steel wires, and dry food in advance, and do a good job of flood prevention and waterproofing in the unit in advance. When a typhoon comes, try to stay in a safe place, and turn off the power supply in time when you find danger to prevent accidents.

What should we pay attention to after a typhoon?

The passing of a typhoon does not mean that the danger is completely eliminated. At this time, many people take it lightly and cause danger.

01Don’t connect broken wires randomly

After a typhoon, it is common to see downed power lines on the road. Regardless of whether they are energized or not, they should be treated as energized. Keep a safe distance from the point where the power lines are broken and report to the power company in a timely manner.

Do not test gas circuits, etc. without full safety assurance to prevent accidents.

02 Timely removal of garbage

After the typhoon, the streets are full of fallen leaves, mud and household garbage, which can easily breed various diseases. At this time, everyone should clean up the garbage as soon as possible. In addition, if there is food in the house that has been flooded or supplies that have been damaged in the typhoon, they should also be dealt with in time.

03Don’t forget post-disaster epidemic prevention

After a typhoon, if the drinking water at home is contaminated, it must be disinfected, and the surrounding environment must be cleaned. It is best to spray some disinfectant when cleaning flooded or rain-soaked areas.

04Prevention of insect-borne diseases

After a typhoon, be sure to clean the surrounding environment, remove stagnant water from flower beds and used tires to prevent mosquito breeding, maintain good household hygiene, and eliminate flies and cockroaches.

Avoid going out during dusk and before dawn when mosquitoes are most active. Wear long sleeves and long pants when going out at night, and avoid sandals.

05 Do not eat food that has been submerged in water

After a typhoon or flood, the number of patients with acute gastroenteritis in hospitals tends to increase, which may be caused by eating unclean food. Disease control experts remind that food soaked in water should not be eaten, except for canned food that is well sealed. Canned food should also be washed with clean water before eating. It is best to boil drinking water for 5-10 minutes before drinking.
