A girl in Shandong fell to her death in a shopping mall. Be careful of these 6 "safety risk points" →

On the evening of November 16, a heart-wrenching fall occurred at the MixC shopping mall in Jining, Shandong, attracting widespread attention.

The on-site surveillance video shows that a girl started standing at the junction of the escalator and a glass guardrail, with a man standing in front of her and several people squatting beside her. When a man in a black top took the induction elevator down, the elevator suddenly started running, driving the handrail conveyor belt.

At this time, the girl leaned on the conveyor belt and lost her balance. A few seconds later, the glass guardrail less than 1 meter high beside her fell off, and she lost her support and fell from the 4th floor to the 1st floor. Afterwards, the local public security agency confirmed that the girl died after failed rescue efforts. At present, the local police are further investigating the specific cause.

It is understood that the incident occurred in a large shopping mall with an area of 80,000 square meters, which was just opened on November 2 this year. After the incident, the mall has installed a protective net.

Where are businesses most likely to occur in public places such as shopping malls?

1. Escalator

Prone to bumps and falls

In public places such as shopping malls, accidental injuries such as escalator "biting" are common. What should we pay attention to?

Safety Tips:

Children and the elderly take the elevator first

Children are active and like to run up and down or touch and bump things when riding escalators, and are easily caught in the gaps; the elderly have relatively poor balance function and slow reaction, and are at a higher risk of falling. Children and the elderly should give priority to taking cabin elevators.

Don't play or run on the escalator

Do not let children lie on the handrails and use them as slides; do not run, chase, or play in the elevator; do not extend their heads, hands, or feet outside the handrails.

Don't play with your phone

Many people do not hold the handrails when riding escalators in subways and shopping malls, and their eyes are fixed on their mobile phones. Before and after riding the escalator, people switch from a relatively static state to a moving state, and it is easy to lose balance and fall. Once clothes, fingers, and toes are stuck in the gap, they are often seriously injured.

Be careful with your hand luggage and shoes

Be careful not to let shoes, scarves, or clothes get caught in the elevator, and do not put your fingers into gaps in the elevator.

Don't run

The height difference between the two ends of the escalator is large, which is not easy for people to adapt to; and the movement radius of the head and feet is different, which can easily lead to instability and falls.

In case of emergency, call for help immediately

In case of emergency, you should immediately call for help and press the red emergency stop button at the entrance and exit. If there is no one around, hold the handrail tightly with both hands and lift your feet. If you fall accidentally, you should cross your fingers, protect the back of your head and neck, and put your elbows forward to protect both temples.

Keep a safe distance

Don't get too close to the passenger in front of you. Keep a safe distance so that you have time to react in case of an emergency. If you have to get close, hold on to the handrails. Especially if there are elderly people, children, or people carrying large items such as suitcases in front of you, keep enough distance.

Be careful not to hold your child too high

Some parents hold their children high in their arms, or even let them ride on their shoulders, which can easily cause the adults to lose balance and fall. It is not recommended to push strollers on escalators, and children should never be allowed to sit in strollers on escalators.

2. Revolving door, glass door

Prone to collision and pinching

Revolving doors are very common in shopping malls, hotels, and large office buildings. Due to the characteristics of revolving doors, they can be dangerous if not used carefully. If a child is curious and puts his hand into the crack of the door, he may be pinched. If it is a hand-pushed revolving door, the person entering or leaving may suddenly push the door hard and the child may be knocked down.

Safety Tips:

Keep an eye on the elderly and children

Most of the people who are caught by the revolving door are elderly people with slow movements and children with poor reaction ability. When passing through the revolving door, if the child is small, the parent can hold the child through. For older children, parents should hold the child's hand and let him stand on the left side away from the edge.

Don't force entry

Do not force entry when the sliding door wing is about to close, as this can easily lead to danger.

Provide safety education for children

Parents must teach their children not to play in revolving doors. If it is an automatic sensor glass door, they should also teach their children not to stand in the middle of the door to avoid pinching the child when the sensor is not sensitive.

3. Guardrail

Prone to falling from height

There are often guardrails installed next to glass windows in shopping malls to isolate stairs, elevators or counters, which may pose a safety hazard to falling from heights.

Safety Tips:

Keep an eye on children and don't climb

When passing the guardrails of the shopping mall, parents should hold their children's hands. Children must be prohibited from climbing in the mall to avoid accidents.

Don't play near the fence

Do not play or chase around the guardrail, do not collide with or lean against it, and do not stick your head, hands or other limbs out of it. Do not get too close to the new large-area glass guardrail, not only because the glass is fragile, but also because if the screws are not tightened, a slight pressure can easily cause a fall accident.

Don't lean on the guardrail

The guardrails in some public places are not set high enough, and people who play or lean against them may easily fall over due to imbalance.

4. Open shelves, fitting mirrors, counter corners

Easy to get hit or bumped

There are many open shelves in shopping malls and supermarkets. Be careful that children do not climb on them or get injured by falling goods. Some counters in shopping malls have sharp and hard corners, and their height is often similar to a child's height, so children can easily hit their heads.

Safety Tips:

Don't get too close to the shelves

Don't get too close to the shelves, especially when there are many people around.

Beware of electrical appliance areas

There are many wires and switches on the home appliance counter, and there are even cases where babies lock themselves in the refrigerator. Parents must keep an eye on their children.

Beware of fragile items

Be careful in places that sell fragile items such as glassware, and especially keep children under close watch.

5. Supermarket cart

Prone to falls

Some of the carts in the supermarket have problems, such as the height of the left and right wheels are inconsistent, and the universal wheels are not flexible to rotate.

Safety Tips:

Check in advance

If you want to let your child sit in a stroller, first check whether the wheels can turn freely and whether the stroller is stable. Do not leave your child alone in the stroller at all times and make sure someone is watching over him or her.

Grasp the handrail

After the child sits on the bike, remind him to hold the handlebars in front and not the sides of the bike.

6. Smooth surface

Prone to falls

The floors in shopping malls are mostly made of stone or composite flooring, which are very smooth. If they happen to be cleaned, it is easy to fall.

Safety Tips:

Don't run around, be careful of water stains on the soles of your shoes

Special attention should be paid in rainy and snowy weather. Make sure to clean the soles of your shoes and remind and watch your children not to run around after entering the room to prevent them from falling or even getting injured.
