The cold wave is coming, and some fat people are in trouble! Why is the fat on the body not resistant to freezing?

The recent drastic drop in temperature in many parts of the country has suddenly made some fat people lose their defenses!

They watched as some slender people continued to show their ankles and wear thin clothes, chatting and laughing in the cold wind. In contrast, they wore down jackets and were covered 360 degrees, but their hands and feet were still cold and shivering.

Shouldn't it be that thin people are more afraid of cold and fat people are less afraid of cold? Why doesn't it seem to be completely like this in real life? Today we are going to talk about who is less afraid of cold, the greasy fat people or the muscular thin people!

1. Why is the fat that I carefully cultivated not resistant to freezing?

When winter comes, some people say, "I can't believe it. I feed my fat cells with good food and drink all day long, but when I am about to freeze to death in the cold wind, they pretend not to understand and are not willing to burn themselves to keep me warm. I feel so disappointed. What an ungrateful person!"

It looks like a joke, but in fact, it is true!

Fat is an important source of energy for the human body, but it is also a poor conductor of heat. There are two types of fat, white fat and brown fat . The fat visible to the naked eye is white fat , which has fewer mitochondria, meaning that they have limited ability to produce heat. There is also a type of fat in the body called "brown fat," which can "burn" energy, speed up the body's metabolism, and promote the consumption of white fat. But the problem is that the content of brown fat in adults is very, very small, generally not exceeding 2% of body weight, and the heat produced is also negligible.

Therefore, for fat people, the fat on their body is like a "natural cotton-padded jacket", which mainly serves the purpose of dissipating heat and keeping warm, but it cannot "burn itself to warm the owner".

So, since fat refuses to burn itself, who in the body is "generating heat" for its owner?

Answer: Muscles!

Muscle is the main source of heat for the human body. Muscle tissue contains a large number of mitochondria , which are the "energy factory" of cells. The metabolic rate of the same amount of muscle is three times that of fat. In other words, more muscle produces more heat, and therefore is more resistant to freezing!

In addition, the distribution ratio of fat and muscle in the human body also affects our ability to withstand cold. Muscles are usually distributed in the central areas of the body, such as the chest, abdomen and back, which are close to important internal organs. This distribution of muscles helps protect the internal organs from the cold, while also helping to maintain core body temperature. Fat is mainly distributed under the skin, forming an insulating layer that helps slow down heat loss. When there is too much fat and too little muscle, the insulating effect of the fat layer will not be as significant as the heat production effect of the muscles, which will cause people with less muscle and more fat to feel cold more easily in cold environments.

2. For people who feel cold easily, how can they improve their cold resistance?

Now that we know that muscles are the "king of heat production", it is still very important to build muscles. Through strength training and aerobic exercise, you can increase muscle mass and increase your basal metabolic rate, thereby increasing heat production. It is recommended to do strength training at least twice a week, such as weightlifting, push-ups, squats, etc.

In addition, you can also activate the heat in your body and make yourself more resistant to cold through the following methods.

1. Adjust your diet: Sufficient protein intake helps muscle growth and repair. At the same time, moderate intake of healthy fats, such as fish oil, nuts and olive oil, can provide extra energy and help the body resist the cold.

2. Keep active: Even in cold weather, you should maintain moderate outdoor activities. Exercise can promote blood circulation and improve the body's ability to adapt to the cold.

3. Dress appropriately: Wearing appropriate clothing can help maintain body temperature. It is recommended to wear multiple layers of clothing so that you can adjust your clothing according to the temperature difference between indoors and outdoors. At the same time, pay attention to protecting your hands, feet and head, as these parts are prone to heat dissipation.

4. Get enough sleep: Adequate sleep helps the body recover and regulate body temperature. Make sure to get at least 7-8 hours of high-quality sleep every night.

5. Manage stress: Long-term stress can affect the body's metabolism and immune system, reducing resistance to cold. Manage stress through meditation, yoga or other relaxation techniques.

Finally, I would like to remind all fat people that it is best to lose some weight and gain some muscle when winter comes, otherwise you will enter an extremely embarrassing season. Because if you wear a little more, a group of people will say, "Hey, fat people are also afraid of the cold." If you wear less, others will say, "Wow, fat people are really not afraid of the cold!"
