The future of Google Glass: There may still be hope in the business world

After two years of development, wearable devices have changed in form. For example, now you can buy not only more beautiful smart watches, but also bracelets, smart sportswear, medical equipment, etc. So how far have the original wearable devices such as Google Glass developed?

It seems that smart glasses have disappeared from major technology media. Earlier news said that developers are gradually abandoning the Google Glass platform, which seems to cast a shadow on the development of smart glasses. So, will smart glasses represented by Google Glass eventually become mainstream or be abandoned by the market?

Expensive prices and limited consumer experience

The biggest problem with Google Glass may be its positioning. If it is a consumer product, the price of $1,500 is obviously difficult to attract consumers, which also leads to a vicious circle of limited user groups and developers unable to profit from applications.

Of course, from the perspective of a consumer digital product, Google Glass itself is not mature enough, such as short battery life and limited applications. Coupled with the wearing form, privacy and other issues, smart glasses can never be worn all day like ordinary glasses, and are even more useless than smart watches.

The commercial sector has certain prospects

The failure in the consumer sector does not mean that Google Glass will fail. As a cutting-edge new device, Google Glass has been favored by the business sector. Some companies have equipped their staff with Google Glass to achieve more efficient productivity applications, including warehouse management, order assembly, smart driving, etc., and through the active presentation of information in the form of glasses, the problem of staff being unable to view messages on handheld devices has been solved.

Future Directions

Everyone seems to agree that for Google Glass to be successful, it has to make the smart glasses more consumer-friendly. Maybe it's the lower price, maybe it's the increased practicality, but it has to make it more interesting to the average consumer. However, this may require an overall improvement in technology to achieve a more compact and wearable design. Interestingly, Intel is rumored to be providing chips for the next generation of Google Glass, which may improve the experience.
